In The Midst of War, Donald Trump Proposes a Billion-Dollar Deal: The USA Will Provide a “Security Shield” to Ukraine, But in Exchange for Rare Minerals Valued at US$500 Billion – Including Titanium, Lithium, and Cerium, Essential for American Technology and Defense. What Does This Pact Really Mean for the Future of Ukraine?

The war in Ukraine is still ongoing, but the U.S. government is already planning for the future. Donald Trump, in his new administration, is proposing an unusual deal: a “security shield” to protect Ukraine from new threats, but in exchange for something valuable – its rare minerals.

The estimated value of these resources exceeds US$500 billion, and the negotiation has been confirmed by U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.

The “Security Shield” Promised by Washington

Trump is interested in Ukraine's rare minerals because they are essential for the U.S. technology and defense industry, helping to reduce dependency on China. These materials are worth about $500 billion and could strengthen the American economy and its global leadership.

The Treasury Secretary, Scott Bessent, made it clear that the U.S. is not offering protection to Ukraine without compensation. According to him, the peace deal desired by Trump involves ensuring U.S. access to the strategic minerals of the war-torn country.

Trump wants an immediate ceasefire and has already indicated that a deal could be reached in the coming days. However, at the same time, he emphasizes that Ukraine’s security must be “guaranteed” through its own natural resources.

“We are investing hundreds of billions of dollars. They have great rare earths. And I want the security of the rare earths,” Trump stated, reinforcing that this is an essential element for the country’s stability.

The Rare Minerals at the Center of the Negotiation

Ukraine is one of the richest countries in the world in rare minerals. With over 20 strategic elements in its territory, the country hosts valuable deposits of essential materials for various industries, from defense to cutting-edge technology.

Among the main minerals that interest the U.S. are:

  • Titanium: crucial for the manufacture of aircraft and military equipment.
  • Lithium: the basis of batteries for electric vehicles and electronic devices.
  • Cerium and Lanthanum: widely used in TV screens, mobile phones, and automobile sensors.

This natural wealth puts Ukraine at the center of a geopolitical game, where access to these materials can determine who will lead the next technological and military revolutions.

What Does Trump Want to Secure with This Negotiation?

In addition to protection for Ukraine, Donald Trump is focused on ensuring U.S. independence regarding rare minerals. Today, a large portion of these resources is dominated by China, and Washington sees Ukraine as an opportunity to reduce this dependency.

At the same time, this move strengthens the U.S. position on the global chessboard. By securing priority access to these materials, Trump can bolster the American industry and reduce Chinese influence in the technology and defense sectors.

However, this partnership raises questions:

  • Will Ukraine truly benefit from this deal, or is it merely handing over its strategic resources?
  • Is Trump interested in the country’s protection, or is he just securing the supply of essential minerals for the U.S.?
  • How will Russia and China react to this move?

The answer could define the future of international relations and global security in the coming years.

The Position of NATO and European Allies

Despite the American offer, not all of Ukraine’s allies are convinced that this is the best solution. U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth emphasized at a NATO summit that Europe also needs to get more involved in defending Ukraine.

The United Kingdom has already shown support, but highlighted that Ukraine’s security should be reinforced by a global coalition and not rely solely on the U.S. “We have heard your concerns and are ready to increase our participation,” said John Healey, British Secretary of Defense.
