In The Infrastructure Package Which Already Sums Up R$ 730 Million, Double Tunnel, Bridges And Viaducts Connect Morro Do Vieira, Ponte Joinville, Araquari, Guaramirim And BR-280 By 2027, Promising To Reduce Daily Routes, Remove Freight From Urban Centers And Unlock Traffic In North Santa Catarina In The Daily Life Of The Entire Region
The detailing of mobility works in North Santa Catarina showed that double tunnel, bridges and viaducts already commit around R$ 730 million in public and federal investments. At the center of the package are the double tunnel at Morro do Vieira, the Ponte Joinville, new connections over the Parati and Itapocu rivers, and the viaducts from the duplication of BR-280.
Between 2026 and January 2027, the forecast is that the most advanced fronts will enter into operation, with the Morro do Vieira tunnel completed in the second half of 2026 and the Ponte Joinville delivered in early 2027. Together, these axes are expected to shorten displacements, alleviate historical bottlenecks and redistribute the flow of heavy vehicles within the urban grid of Joinville, Araquari, Guaramirim and Jaraguá do Sul.
How The Double Tunnel, Bridges And Viaducts Package Is Distributed In The Region

According to DNIT and the municipalities, the set of double tunnel, bridges and viaducts in North Santa Catarina includes five major works fronts.
-
Florianópolis will receive a million-dollar BRT that will begin construction in 2026 with nearly 400 million in funding from the federal government and the Inter-American Development Bank, and the map already shows the routes for the exclusive bus corridors.
-
Without a blueprint, without an engineer, and using scrap from the dump, a father spends 15 years building an 18-room castle for his daughter, featuring tram tracks, 13 fireplaces, and over 700 m², which may now be demolished.
-
A megaproject worth R$ 89 billion is advancing in Iraq and promises to change the game in global trade by creating a new corridor between Asia and Europe, reducing traditional routes and repositioning the country as a logistics powerhouse.
-
Goodbye bedside table: floating shelves become a trend in 2026 by freeing up space in the bedroom, improving circulation, bringing visual lightness, and integrating technology without taking up floor space.
The double tunnel at Morro do Vieira receives R$ 228 million, the Ponte Joinville totals approximately R$ 328 million, the bridge over the Parati River in Araquari is estimated at R$ 60 million, the new bridge between Araquari and Guaramirim is projected at R$ 12.1 million, and the viaducts of BR-280 in Jaraguá do Sul concentrate R$ 102.7 million.
In practice, the aim is to form a continuous corridor of infrastructure, linking the transposition of Morro do Vieira to the urban axis of Joinville, the connections over the Parati and Itapocu rivers, and the duplication of BR-280.
The logic is to remove part of the heavy traffic from within the neighborhoods, reduce travel times, and create more direct routes for freight and public transport.
Double Tunnel of Morro Do Vieira

The double tunnel at Morro do Vieira, in Joinville, has an approximate length of 1 kilometer and is executed in rigid concrete pavement, with an investment of R$ 228 million.
Currently, teams are focusing on earthworks and construction of the containment to stabilize the west embankment, a step that adjusts the terrain to the level planned in the project and ensures adequate geometry and drainage for the future road.
Due to the soil and rock characteristics, the excavation occurs in two phases, first in the upper part and then in the lower part, always with supporting structures for safety.
The tunnel will receive two layers of concrete, a primary support concrete and a secondary concrete, thicker and reinforced with steel, to enhance the durability and safety of users.
The completion of the double tunnel at Morro do Vieira is scheduled for the second half of 2026, becoming one of the first major deliveries of the mobility package.
Ponte Joinville Connecting East And South Of The City
The Ponte Joinville is treated as the largest urban mobility work in the history of the city, with a contract worth R$ 328 million.
The structure will be about 980 meters long and 26 meters wide, connecting the South and East regions from Alwino Hansen Avenue, in the Adhemar Garcia neighborhood, crossing the Cachoeira River to the Boa Vista neighborhood, on São Leopoldo and São Borja streets.
There will be two lanes in each direction, a shoulder, bike lane, and sidewalk for pedestrians.
The estimate is that about 65 thousand people will use the Ponte Joinville daily, with a direct impact on approximately 448 thousand residents in the served regions.
The journey between the East and South zones gets shorter, improving the service of four urban public transport terminals.
The work began in May 2024 and is expected to be delivered in January 2027, coinciding with the consolidation of the double tunnel, bridges and viaducts package in the region.
Bridge Over The Parati River Shortening Araquari
In Araquari, the project for the bridge over the Parati River, which will connect the city to the Rodovia Rio do Morro toward Joinville, is in the resource gathering phase with state and federal governments, with an estimated investment of R$ 60 million.
The design envisions a bridge with a length of 488 meters and a total intervention area of 70,968 square meters, creating a new axis between Vila Porto Alegre and the Center.
The expectation is to reduce the travel time from about 40 minutes to just 7 minutes on this route, generating an estimated annual savings of R$ 32 million by reducing logistical costs and gaining efficiency in the daily transport of workers and students.
There is no defined date for bidding or the actual start of construction yet, but the bridge over the Parati River is seen as a strategic piece to integrate the double tunnel, bridges and viaducts package and unlock access to Joinville.
New Bridge Araquari Guaramirim Over The Itapocu River
Another planned connection is the new bridge between Araquari and Guaramirim, over the Itapocu River, with a length of 100 meters and a width of 13 meters.
The project includes two traffic lanes, sidewalks, and bike lanes, with an estimated investment of R$ 12.1 million. Currently, there is an old suspension bridge built in 1978 at the site, which has been closed by the Civil Defense, forcing the population to take an approximately 16-kilometer detour.
The new structure is expected to replace the old bridge, which will be demolished by the municipality of Araquari. The municipalities are advancing in seeking resources to enable its execution.
When completed, the Araquari Guaramirim bridge should shorten the daily route for residents, integrate rural and urban areas, and reinforce the effect of the set of double tunnel, bridges, and viaducts on regional logistics.
Viaducts Of BR 280 In Jaraguá Do Sul
In Jaraguá do Sul, two viaducts under construction in the João Pessoa neighborhood make up Lot 2.2 of the duplication of BR-280, between the Guaramirim bypass and Jaraguá do Sul, passing through Schroeder.
The investments total R$ 102.7 million.
The first viaduct will have a length of 85.36 meters and the second will reach 220.30 meters.
At the elevated area located between km 64.738 and km 65.125, the installation of the long beams, concreting of the roadway slabs, and completion of the New Jersey-type safety barriers are ongoing, a step that will be followed by paving.
At the viaduct between km 65.344 and km 65.569, the foundations with root piles are underway, in addition to the reinforcement and concreting of blocks, pillars, and transverse beams.
After the infrastructure, the launching of beams and slabs will follow, consolidating another key section of the duplication of BR-280.
What Changes In The Mobility Of North Santa Catarina By 2027
Taken together, the deliveries expected for 2026 and 2027 sketch a new mobility map for North Santa Catarina.
The double tunnel at Morro do Vieira promises to relieve the capacity of current links over the massif, the Ponte Joinville should reorganize the flow between the East and South zones of the city, and the bridges in Araquari and Guaramirim tend to shorten distances between productive areas, ports, residential areas and strategic road axes.
For the end user, the impact should appear in less travel time, more route options, and reduced pressure on the most congested urban accesses.
For the productive sector, the gain lies in the decrease in logistical costs and greater predictability of routes to BR-280 and other corridors.
The challenge will be to follow schedules, ensure resources, and oversee the execution so that the double tunnel, bridges, and viaducts package translates into real benefits in the daily life of those who depend on the highways and avenues of the region.
In light of this scenario, in your view as someone who lives or circulates in North SC, which of these works do you believe will change your daily commuting routine the most when everything is ready in 2026 and 2027?
