Uber Woman Arrives in 13 Cities and Allows Female Passengers to Choose Women Drivers in the Uber App for Safer Rides.
Uber Woman, a new feature of the Uber transportation app, began rolling out this week for female passengers who wish to ride only with women drivers. The announcement was made on Monday (03/09/2026) and is initially available in 13 Brazilian capitals, including São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte, Recife, and Salvador.
The tool allows passengers to choose female drivers directly in the app, enhancing the sense of security and comfort during the ride.
The company’s proposal arises amid discussions about women’s safety in urban mobility services. Thus, the feature offers more autonomy to women using the platform, allowing them to select drivers of the same gender when requesting rides on Uber.

Uber Woman: How the New Feature Works in the Transportation App
The new Uber Woman function was created to make the use of the Uber transportation app more comfortable for women. In practice, the feature offers different ways to select women drivers when requesting a ride.
First, the passenger can directly choose the Uber Woman category on the app’s home screen. In this case, the system will search for a female driver available nearby.
If there are no drivers at the moment, the app itself asks whether the user prefers to wait longer or accept another driver.
Another possibility is to schedule the trip in advance. The option called Reserve Uber Woman allows rides to be booked at least 30 minutes in advance, facilitating travel planning.
Moreover, there is a third alternative. In the profile settings, the passenger can activate a preference for female drivers. With this feature enabled, the system will prioritize female drivers for UberX rides whenever they are available.
Uber Woman Also Allows Drivers to Choose Passengers
The new feature does not only benefit those requesting transportation through the app. Women drivers registered in Uber can also set the system to serve only female passengers.
This way, they can better control who enters the vehicle, increasing the sense of security while working. The option can be enabled or disabled whenever the driver wishes.
In practice, the functionality expands a feature that already existed on the platform. Since 2019, the program called U-Elas has allowed women drivers to filter rides requested exclusively by women.
Now, with Uber Woman, this dynamic also applies to those requesting rides.
Why Uber Created Uber Woman in the App
The creation of Uber Woman is linked to the growing debate on women’s safety in urban mobility services. In recent years, reports of harassment and uncomfortable situations during rides in ride-hailing services have generated pressure for changes in the sector.
According to the company itself, the feature meets a long-standing request from users.
“The Uber Woman tool is an old demand from Brazilian women, who report feeling more comfortable when meeting a female driver on their journey,” the company informs Metrópoles.
Thus, the proposal aims to offer more autonomy to female passengers in choosing who will drive their ride.
Brazilian Capitals That Already Have Uber Woman
The launch of Uber Woman occurs gradually in Brazil. Initially, the tool is being made available in 13 capitals.
Among the cities that have already begun to receive the feature are:
São Paulo;
Rio de Janeiro;
Belo Horizonte;
Salvador;
Brasília;
Recife;
Manaus;
Fortaleza;
Belém;
João Pessoa;
Goiânia;
São Luís;
Cuiabá.
Over time, the expectation is that the functionality will expand to other regions.
Uber Feature Also Comes to Uber Teens
Another news is that Uber Woman can also be used on Uber Teens accounts, a mode aimed at youngsters between 12 and 17 years old.
In this case, families can prioritize women drivers for transporting teenagers. The measure seeks to increase parents’ and guardians’ confidence in using the transportation app.
Furthermore, the functionality reinforces the company’s strategy to enhance safety tools on the platform.
Safety in Ride-Hailing Transport Remains Under Debate
The launch of Uber Woman occurs at a time of growing attention to the safety of passengers in mobility services.
Meanwhile, experts point out that initiatives like this can help increase the feeling of protection during rides. Still, the debate over safety in ride-hailing services remains active.
Therefore, the new feature emerges as another attempt to make the use of Uber more comfortable for women — both for those driving and for those using the service daily.
