On Friday night (5), the Oil Workers Union of Paraná and Santa Catarina (Sindipetro) released a public note to demand “urgent measures” regarding the cases of Covid-19 at the Petrobras refinery, Repar.

The entity highlighted that 92 Repar employees are infected with Covid-19. The information was disclosed during the week by the city hall of Araucária.

“This confirms that the measures adopted by the company to combat the pandemic are not enough. It is necessary to prohibit the cleaning of environments, new mass testing, as many contaminated workers interact with non-tested workers when changing shifts or in shared places, in addition to the dissemination of detailed reports on the health crisis at Repar”, charges the union.

Petrobras responded, in a note, that “it has not measured efforts to face the pandemic”. “In addition to extensive testing, it has been adopting actions such as strict sanitization of facilities, use of masks and reduction of face-to-face activities by around 90% in administrative areas and 50% in operational areas that perform essential activities”, he informs.

According to Petrobras, within a universe of more than 46.500 employees, 217 employees (excluding outsourced workers) are infected with the coronavirus, which are being treated. “Everyone is monitored by Petrobras health teams and the company works with service providers so that they can also monitor their employees. The company does not inform numbers per unit”, continues the note.

In an interview with Gazeta do Povo on Saturday (6), the director of the Sindipetro Alexandro Guilherme Jorge said that workers "are very concerned" and that Repar has not given full transparency to the numbers of infected people in the unit. He recalls that, at Repar alone, there are around 700 employees, Petrobras, and approximately 1000 outsourced. Among the 92 identified cases of Covid-19, it is not known how many are own employees and how many are outsourced.”
