The Partnership Between VLI and Embrapa Will Enable a Greater Discussion on Sustainability and Innovation in Agribusiness and Ensure Expansion of Productivity in the Segment, Focusing on Environmental Commitment

Embrapa and VLI, a logistics solutions company, announced last Thursday (04/28) a partnership aimed at the agribusiness sector. Thus, the companies will develop the LabCerrado project – Agroinnovation Accelerator of the Cerrados – Sustainable Agro-territorial Development, which primarily focuses on adopting innovation and sustainability for better utilization of agribusiness areas in the national territory, as well as expanding perspectives for the sector.

LabCerrado Is the Newest Innovation and Sustainability Project by VLI and Embrapa for the Growth of the Agribusiness Sector in Brazil

After the announcement of the LabCerrado project – Agroinnovation Accelerator of the Cerrados – Sustainable Agro-territorial Development, VLI and Embrapa emphasized that the partnership will be carried out through a technical and financial cooperation agreement throughout the initiative. Thus, the companies will join forces to bring new alternatives and viable solutions for the growth of agribusiness focused on sustainability and innovation with new technologies being used within this production chain.

Moreover, the main goal of the partnership is sustainable territorial development in selected cerrado regions of the states of Tocantins and Minas Gerais, in a potential cultivable area of 10 million hectares. In this way, VLI will make a total investment of R$ 4 million aimed at the development of new technologies for the grain production chain during annual harvests, as well as in research, development, and innovation optimized by soil and climate conditions to assist in this entire process.

Thus, VLI’s general marketing manager, Diego Zanella, highlighted the importance of the project in bringing innovation and sustainability to the agribusiness sector in Brazil and stated that “LabCerrado goes beyond the conventional operational boundaries of a company in our railway sector by proposing solutions to the challenges of agricultural production in the regions influenced by our logistics system. The capillarity of our network and the partnership with Embrapa allow us to reach a series of territories and actors in the agribusiness sector, making this initiative a true vector of economic and social development.”

Innovation and Sustainability Project Will Promote Increased Rural Competitiveness and Agribusiness Production Focused on Environmental Commitment

According to Embrapa, the main objective of LabCerrado is to seek an Environmental Commitment in agribusiness productions, without neglecting the search for new productivity alternatives. Thus, a virtuous circle will be created, generating income for these states and promoting the exchange of knowledge, technologies, and good agricultural practices through the sharing of experiences and information between the companies and the rural producers who will benefit from the project.

All the regions that will be covered by the LabCerrado innovation and sustainability project have high potential for agribusiness utilization. Thus, what the project seeks is to boost this production in the best possible way, in accordance with the global environmental agenda. This will involve mobilization and engagement of producers and other stakeholders, such as entities and associations of the agribusiness sector, public authorities, industry, trading companies, financial sector, and other companies that can contribute to good practices within agribusiness.

The cerrado is one of the largest biomes in the production of agribusiness products and currently represents 55% of Brazilian meat production and 49% of corn and soybeans, the main export products in the country. Thus, the development of a project focused on this region with an emphasis on innovation and sustainability will bring a series of benefits for the cerrado to continue growing in the country.
