Documentary ET from Varginha Revisits the ET Case from Varginha and Rekindles Historical Ufology Debates in Brazil.
Three decades after the episode that placed Southern Minas at the center of global attention, the ET from Varginha returns to the debate with the premiere of the documentary ET from Varginha, which revisits the ET case from Varginha with new testimonies, documents, and lesser-known versions.
Furthermore, the production was presented in a free premiere last Sunday (4th) at the ET Memorial in Varginha (MG), gathering hundreds of curious residents and tourists.
The work, titled “The Mystery of Varginha,” is a co-production of EPTV with Globo Studios and marks the 30th anniversary of the episode that occurred in January 1996.

Divided into three episodes of 45 minutes, the documentary ET from Varginha gathers audios, documents, and interviews never previously broadcast.
The material is the result of an extensive investigation that traveled through cities in Minas Gerais, São Paulo, and Brasília between October and December 2025.
During the premiere, the audience attentively followed each new revelation.
Thus, reactions of surprise, concentrated silence, and discreet comments marked the session, highlighting that the Mystery of Varginha continues to spark curiosity even after so many years.
Curiosity, Belief, and Skepticism Divide Residents
Among the residents, opinions remain distinct.
Public servant Daniela Monteiro de Andrade, born in Varginha, claims to have no doubts about what happened.
“I believe, yes. I am from here and recognize the extraordinary movement that occurred in the city. The repercussions are what make me believe in the episode. I have no doubt at all.”
On the other hand, retiree Elvira Monteiro de Andrade, Daniela’s mother, holds a skeptical view.
“It’s a legend. In my opinion, it’s a legend.”
Thus, this division of opinions reinforces how the ET case from Varginha remains alive in the local imagination, fueling debates across generations.
Visitors Seek to Understand the Mystery of Varginha
The premiere also attracted visitors from other regions of the country. Distribution technician Henrique Martins Duarte stated he attended the event looking for information beyond popular versions.
“I want to understand the case better, to go beyond what we always hear in conversations.”
Tourist José Eduardo Pinheiro, from Porto Alegre (RS), assessed that the documentary expands the understanding of the episode.
“I found it very interesting because it brings various accounts, shows points that have not been fully explained yet, and makes us reflect on the versions, even without definitive proof.”
According to him, the ET from Varginha has become part of the cultural identity of the city, present in monuments, souvenirs, and references scattered throughout Varginha.
The ‘Three Girls from the ET’ and the Human Side of the Case
One of the central axes of the documentary ET from Varginha is the rescue of the stories of people whose routines were transformed by the episode.
Among the most anticipated testimonies are those of Kátia, Liliane, and Valquíria, known as the “three girls from the ET.”
Liliane de Fátima Silva emphasized the importance of keeping the debate active.
“It’s very important for the city that the witnesses come forward to talk about the case. Every time we recall, it’s emotional.”
Kátia Andrade Xavier reinforced that the series helps clarify old doubts.
“Now the documentary removes many doubts. Before, people were left without information about what really happened.”
Investigators, Opposing Versions, and New Revelations
The production also brings back investigators who marked the history of the ET case from Varginha.
Moreover, among them are Vitório Pacaccini, who maintains his conviction about a supposed extraterrestrial capture, and Ubirajara Rodrigues, the first ufologist to investigate the episode, who years later stated that the creature never existed.
According to director-general Ricardo Calil, the series presents stories never revealed before.
“These are stories that have never been told and will change people’s perception of the ET from Varginha case.”
The ET from Varginha as a Cultural Symbol
Thirty years later, the Mystery of Varginha has surpassed the investigation field and has established itself as a cultural identity.
The Secretary of Tourism and Commerce, Rosana Carvalho, summarizes this impact.
“This case changed the identity of the municipality. Today, when people talk about Varginha, the first thing that comes to mind is the ET.”
Thus, even without definitive answers, the ET from Varginha remains one of the city’s greatest symbols and a permanent landmark in ufology in Brazil.
