The Brazilian Automotive Market Experienced An August Of Intense Disputes. Even With A Decline In Overall Sales, Two Brands Stood Out Overwhelmingly. Volkswagen And Fiat Dominated The List Of Best-Selling Cars And Showed Strength In Different Segments, From Entry Hatches To Pickups And Compact SUVs.
The Brazilian automotive market closed August with mixed signals. Total new vehicle sales reached 213,838 units, a decrease of nearly 7% compared to July and a decline of 3% compared to the same month in 2024. Despite the occasional retraction, the year-to-date total remains positive, with 1.576 million registrations, up 3% over 2024.
However, among the highlights of the month, one data point stands out: Volkswagen And Fiat Placed 8 Models Among The 15 Best-Selling In Brazil, showing almost absolute domination over the market.
Polo And Strada Lead The Way
In first place, the Volkswagen Polo confirmed its favoritism with 12,908 units registered, driven mainly by the entry-level Track version. The hatch has established itself as the best-selling car in the country in 2025, maintaining a strong and steady pace.

Completing the top 3, the Fiat Argo totaled 10,097 licenses, helping Fiat reinforce its presence among the most sought after.
Direct Duel: 4 Models Each
The survey of the 15 best-selling cars shows that Volkswagen And Fiat Have 4 Models Each On The List:
- Volkswagen: Polo (1st), T-Cross (5th, 7,702), Saveiro (10th, 5,358), and the newly arrived Tera (15th, 4,157).
- Fiat: Strada (2nd), Argo (3rd), Mobi (7th, 7,045), and Fastback (11th, 5,040).
In practice, together the two brands dominate more than half of the ranking, confirming portfolio strength and dealership coverage.
SUV On The Rise: Corolla Cross Shines
Among other highlights, the Toyota Corolla Cross surprised with 7,737 units, securing 4th place and the best performance among medium SUVs. The result placed the model well ahead of traditional rivals like the Jeep Compass (15th, 4,717) and the Volkswagen Taos (726).
In the same vein, the Hyundai Creta and the Chevrolet Tracker maintained constant presence, with 6,649 and 4,942 sales, respectively.
Novices Gain Ground
Another important point was the rise of the Volkswagen Tera, which registered 4,157 units and showed growth of nearly a thousand cars compared to July. Produced in Taubaté (SP), the model is starting to gain factory momentum and positions itself as Volkswagen’s bet to face the Fiat Pulse (4,282).
The Market Portrait
The result of August confirms a scenario of national dominance of Volkswagen And Fiat, which together lead comfortably and show balance across different segments — from entry hatches to pickups and compact SUVs.
For consumers, the intense competition ensures variety and competitive offers. For automakers, the challenge is to maintain the pace in the face of brands seeking space, such as Toyota, Hyundai, and Chevrolet, which remain steadfast in their attempt to narrow the gap in the ranking.
