WEG, A Company Operating In Various Segments Of The Energy Sector, Is Investing In Its MG Factory To Expand Its Participation In The National Market.

The WEG is focused on expanding its participation in the national market and to this end has announced new investments to modernize and expand the production capacity of Balteau, in Itajubá, in the southern part of the state of MG. Balteau is a company of the WEG Group specialized in the production of transformers for measuring instruments and assemblies. According to Carlos Diether Prinz, Superintendent Director of WEG Transmission & Distribution, these investments are an important source of competitive advantage for the company in the T&D sector.

WEG Plans To Expand 1,350 m² Of Its Factory In MG

According to the company’s executive, by the end of the investment project in MG, it will be possible to achieve a significant increase in production capacity for the company’s line of current transformers and protection and measurement potential from 72 kV to 245 kV.

The company also plans to double the production of the 550 kV current transformer line and expand the assembly, warehouse, transformer treatment, and shipping areas. With the new investments from WEG, the expectation is that its factory in Itajubá will be expanded by 1,350 m² and the sector will be equipped with modern winding, treatment, insulation, and drying equipment for transformers.

The expansion will create about 50 new job positions at the unit in MG. The Balteau unit was purchased by WEG last September and currently has 11,800 m² of built area and a team of over 400 employees. The multinational specializes in design, electrical testing, production, and technical assistance for current transformers and capacitive potential transformers up to 550 kV, inductive potential transformers up to 145 kV, and measurement assemblies up to 36 kV.

Balteau Achieves Net Revenue Of R$ 121.7 Million

At the time, WEG did not disclose the value of the transaction but issued a statement to shareholders informing them of the purchase of 100% of the share capital of Balteau in MG. The multinational noted that the completion of the purchase is subject to the fulfillment of certain precedent conditions.

The company also highlighted that the Balteau unit achieved net revenue of R$ 121.7 million in 2020 and has a factory with 11,800 square meters of built area, equipped with modern facilities and equipment.

During the acquisition investments last year, Prinz claims that by the purchase, WEG complements its position as a distributor of solutions for power transmission infrastructure projects and enhances its range of products and solutions related to the generation, distribution, and transmission of energy.
