WEG, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of electric motors, is responsible for supplying the Powertrain system for Volkswagen’s e-Delivery electric truck family
The e-Delivery and e-Consortium developed by Volkswagen Trucks and Buses with global heavyweights such as Bosch, ABB, and Siemens mark the beginning of a new era of products and solutions for Brazil’s transport and logistics ecosystem. Innovation is in the DNA not only of VWCO, but also of the companies that have joined the automaker to offer genuine consulting for enabling electric mobility in Brazil.

Launched in 2019, the innovative e-Consortium follows the model of the Modular Consortium, a unique production system in the world and revolutionary since its inception.
“The e-Consortium offers a complete and competitive solution for the adoption of Brazilian electric commercial fleets powered by solar energy. Companies with investments in logistics play a fundamental role in the search for more profitable and sustainable assets, and energy flexibility is one of them,” says Ricardo Costa, President of GDSolar Holding.

The Volkswagen e-Delivery, a light urban truck powered by electricity, will now be offered with an innovative consulting and services package that forms a complete ecosystem for electric mobility. One hundred percent developed, tested, and manufactured in Brazil, the e-Delivery models with 11 and 14 tons of gross vehicle weight are the result of R$ 150 million in investments, equivalent to over 400,000 kilometers of testing and the full dedication of a team made up of 150 Brazilian engineers and technicians.
WEG, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of electric motors, is responsible for supplying the Powertrain system for VWCO
WEG, as a member of the e-Consortium, will be responsible for supplying the main Powertrain system, consisting of a traction electric motor plus a frequency inverter, as well as motors and inverters for auxiliary systems.
For the e-Delivery, WEG, along with Volkswagen Trucks and Buses Engineering, developed a customized solution for the application, meeting the most demanding automotive requirements.
According to Manfred Peter Johann, Superintendent Director of WEG Automation, WEG, with a long tradition in developing electric traction systems for buses, trolleybuses, trains, ships, and vessels, as well as systems for charging electric vehicles, is now advancing into the mass production of the Powertrain System for electric urban delivery vehicles. “Our experience in this electric mobility market has brought us to this point. Our Powertrain technology, developed over years, tested, and constantly innovated, has enabled us for this grand technological cooperation project. Together with this e-Consortium team, we are working to transform the transportation industry in Brazil,” explains the executive.
e-Consortium developed by Volkswagen Trucks and Buses, in partnership with Bosch, ABB, and Siemens, will enable commercial fleets of giants Ambev, Coca-Cola FEMSA Brasil, and JBS
In addition to supplying the Volkswagen electric trucks, the e-Consortium will provide consultancy with specialized teams to guide logistics and transport companies on the best solutions for their fleet. The goal of the members is to enable the financial viability of electric mobility in commercial fleets in the country. Ambev, Coca-Cola FEMSA Brasil, and JBS are the first to acquire the Volkswagen electric trucks.
“As a participant in supplying photovoltaic energy, GDSolar developed, together with Volkswagen Trucks and Buses, a solution that reduces investments in solar energy supply for charging trucks. This way, we close a virtuous cycle for the operation of the e-Consortium and further contribute to adding value for our clients,” Costa concludes.
