With a Strong Growth in the Renewables Segment in the National Territory, Wilson Sons Has Consolidated Itself as the Leader in Brazil Regarding Maritime Support Operations for Ships That Carry Equipment for Wind Energy Projects.

In addition to being one of the largest shipping companies in the world, Wilson Sons is at the forefront in Brazil regarding maritime support operations aimed at the wind energy segment. This is because the company has a strong presence in support services for ships that transport equipment used in wind farm projects across the country, becoming the leader in this sector in the nation.

Cargo Transport Ships for Wind Energy Projects Receive Port Support from Wilson Sons in the Brazilian Port Sector

The search for energy transition worldwide is reflecting in Brazil with the creation of new wind energy generation projects, with ventures across the country. Thus, the supply chain for transporting equipment for this segment has followed this growth, and the port support company Wilson Sons has seized the opportunity to ensure its presence in the movement of cargo across Brazilian ports.

The company has become the national leader in maritime support operations for ships transporting this equipment and carries out a total of about 300 maneuvers per year to ensure safety in this process.

This occurs because, although the necessity for good infrastructure in land transportation is relevant, the maritime scenario is even more complicated regarding this equipment. The ships that carry out this transport for wind energy projects are specific and referred to as “General Cargo Ships,” which require efficient and powerful tugboats for greater safety in operations.

Thus, Wilson Sons has been ensuring a strong supply of port support services so that the movement of this equipment for wind energy projects can occur in the best way possible.

Currently, the company’s main areas of operation are in the ports of the Northeast region, with a focus on Pecém (CE), Fortaleza (CE), and Salvador (BA), key terminals for transporting these cargoes. This is the region of the country with the most favorable winds for wind energy production, and the company intends to continue maintaining its leadership in the region.

Expectation of Offshore Wind Energy Projects in Brazil Brings New Growth Projections for Port Support Services for Ships for Wilson Sons

Currently, wind energy production accounts for 11.8% of the Brazilian electric matrix, second only to hydropower generation, which represents 56.4%, according to data from ABEEólica (Brazilian Wind Energy Association). For the coming years, the segment of wind generation projects is expected to grow even more significantly, as the country prepares for the entry of offshore wind farms into national territory.

Thus, Elísio Dourado, commercial director of the Tugboats division at Wilson Sons, highlights:  “We understand that offshore wind projects will have a logistics similar to that of the offshore Oil and Gas sector. Wilson Sons already has significant experience in supporting the O&G sector, such as providing support to FPSOs (Floating Production, Storage, and Offloading units) and operation rigs for current offshore projects. We believe that these experiences, combined with the quality and safety of our services, are paramount factors.”

The executive also concluded by stating that the infrastructure of port support services for ships worldwide is Wilson Sons’ great differential, and over the next few years, projections indicate that leadership in the wind energy segment will remain in Brazil.
