The New Factory Will Be Built by the Multinational Smart Modular Technologies. The Expectation Is That Production Will Generate Up to 150 Jobs

The city of Manaus has been chosen to begin operations for the fourth factory of the multinational Smart Modular Technologies in Brazil. In October of this year, the PIM (Industrial Pole of Manaus) will feature the production of components for cell phones and computers. The investments are budgeted at R$ 137 million over three years. The expectation is that production should generate 150 jobs by January 2022. The Details of the Factory to Be Installed in Manaus

The president and founder of the company that will install a factory in Manaus, Rogério Nunes, says that the plans envision growth. He emphasizes that in 2020, the volume of computers that used the memory modules from the manufacturer reached 6.9 million. “In 2021 this number is expected to reach a total of 8.1 million. We will meet the 5G technology and other connectivity-related demands.”

According to the president, the largest portion of the R$137 million balance will be immediately applied to the installation of the factory in Manaus and the start of operations. Another investment planned by Smart Brasil is R$10 million per year. This amount will be allocated, starting October of this year, to the Research and Development (R&D) segment. “The work will be done in partnership with a research institute in the region, focused on the development/improvements of products and processes,” he states.

Various Investments in the State of Amazonas

In the opinion of the vice president of Fieam, Nelson Azevedo, the decision of these companies to establish themselves and invest in the PIM demonstrates that entrepreneurs believe in the Manaus Free Trade Zone model. “Despite some dissonant signals emitted by Brasília that cause legal insecurity, entrepreneurs are confident to continue with their projects in the region. Another factor that makes us happy is the deployment projects. These are new products or new companies that are bringing investments to the Industrial Pole and signaling the expansion of jobs,” he celebrates.

He says that the sector believes in the resumption of economic growth and the expansion of business in the Manaus Free Trade Zone. “We will remain vigilant to maintain the attractiveness of the region and advance in this development project.”

The appliance company Britânia, owner of the American Philco brand in Brazil, has started work on the new factory in the municipality of Linhares, located in the north of the state of Espírito Santo. The investment is approximately R$ 200 million and is expected to generate about 1,500 direct jobs initially, potentially reaching up to two thousand hires.

The mayor of the northern city of Espírito Santo, Guerino Zanon, announced the start of the work through a social network. “We are pleased to announce the start of the largest industrial project in Espírito Santo. The Britânia/Philco factory will start being built in our city, Linhares, with 70,000 m2 of factory floor that will generate more than 2,000 direct jobs for the locals,” he said.

According to Zanon, it took four years of many trips between Curitiba and Linhares. And the result, when the relationship with entrepreneurs and the public sector is treated with reliability between the parties, is success, concluded the mayor, expressing gratitude for the installation of the new factory in the state of Espírito Santo. In addition to promoting job creation for local workers and thus ensuring the economic development of the municipality, the city hall believes that the factory will have a positive impact on the economy of the entire Espírito Santo.
