In Brazil, This Will Be Google’s Second Engineering Center, a Company That Has Had an Office in Belo Horizonte Since 2006
Google announced this Tuesday, 14, that it has allocated around R$ 1.6 billion to its computing division infrastructure in Brazil since 2017 and that it will inaugurate a new office and engineering center in the country in 2023.
In January, Google – which has thousands of job openings available – announced the hiring of 200 new engineers in Brazil, aiming to boost security technologies and tackle abusive content. With this new engineering center, Google will double its hiring of engineers in Brazil.
With this center, Google will have two engineering centers in Brazil. The other is located in Belo Horizonte, MG, and has been operating in Brazil since 2006.

IR 2026 will affect those who have crypto: the Revenue Service receives monthly data, pre-filled forms pull even cashback from Mercado Pago, and exchanging Bitcoin for USDT becomes a taxable sale; declare correctly or fall into scrutiny.
The planning of Google’s investments will increase the company’s competition with Amazon Web Services, which already has operations in Brazil and announced in 2020 that it would allocate about R$ 1 billion to data processing centers in the state of São Paulo.
New Unit of the Company Will Be at the Institute of Technological Research of São Paulo
The new Google engineering center will be located at the Institute of Technological Research (IPT), integrating the innovation environment of IPT Open Experience as a “stage for developing solutions for the company’s strategic sectors at a global level.”
The new engineering center will consist of 7,000 square meters, with offices that can accommodate up to 400 people working in various areas. Google’s new unit is another advancement in its expansion plan, which focuses on the operation of Google’s engineering centers in Brazil.
Google and IPT Open Experience Form Partnership
The new Google engineering center will be in one of the main buildings of the IPT Open Experience complex, which was established in 1936. Thus, the installation of the engineering center will try to preserve the original architecture of the building as much as possible, keeping the history of the place and using technology to ensure the well-being of the planet and society through a process managed by principles of sustainability and decarbonization by Google.
“Google’s partnership with IPT Open Experience can serve as a means to promote innovation for the ecosystem, supported by the pillars of technological and business development, workforce training, and engagement with startups,” stated Liedi Legi Bariani, President of IPT.
Any modifications that occur at IPT will be the responsibility of Google, and the engineering center is expected to start operating by the end of 2024.
With a New Engineering Center in Brazil, Google Will Offer Up to 500,000 Training Scholarships
With the partnership between Google and IPT and a headquarters that, as mentioned above, will feature over 7,000m² and can accommodate up to 400 employees, Google’s new engineering center in Brazil will provide approximately 500,000 scholarships for Google Professional Certificates.
Starting this Tuesday, 14, the scholarships offered by Google began to be distributed. About 30,000 of them were allocated to young people from CIEE (Center for Integration of Companies and Schools), with priority given to the distribution of slots for Black individuals, women, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and people from low-income backgrounds.
Google will also expand its partnerships with some media outlets in Brazil through the expansion of Startups Lab, a program aimed at encouraging new journalistic companies.
