The Federal Institute published the Notice 023/2022, which includes the selection process for initial and continuing training courses in languages, which will be taught entirely online. It offers 4 language course options, totaling 2,000 spots, using the Moodle platform.

Online Language Courses at the Federal Institute

English – Module II

The Online English Course at the Federal Institute of Southern Minas will have 800 spots and a workload of 160 hours. The prerequisites for applying to this course include having completed Module 1 of the Languages Without Borders/New Paths Program of IFSULDEMINAS, or having finished a basic-level course with a minimum duration of 40 hours.

The objective of the course is to develop the understanding of isolated sentences and expressions for everyday needs, thereby familiarizing the student with the understanding and use of common expressions through simple statements.

English – Module III

For Module III of the Online English Course at the Federal Institute of Southern Minas, 200 spots will be offered with a workload of 160 hours. This course is intended for students who have completed Module 2 of the Languages Without Borders/New Paths Program at IFSULDEMINAS or who have at least an intermediate level in English with 80 hours of course duration.

For this module, the goal is to train individuals to understand and reproduce more complex structures of this foreign language, in addition to knowing how to use conditional sentences and hypothetical and future situations at a complex level.

Spanish – Module II

For the Spanish language, the Federal Institute of Southern Minas will offer an online course with 400 spots and a duration of 160 hours. To enroll in this course, it is necessary to have completed Module 1 of the Languages Without Borders/New Paths Program of IFSULDEMINAS or to have finished 40 hours of a basic-level course in the language.

This module focuses on developing basic skills to understand isolated sentences and immediate expressions such as personal information, shopping, and the surrounding environment.

Spanish – Module III

The third module of the online Spanish course at the Federal Institute of Southern Minas will have 600 spots and will be aimed at candidates who have completed Module 2 of the Languages Without Borders/New Paths Program of IFSULDEMINAS or have an equivalent level of fluency in the language based on 80 hours of intermediate course.

The purpose of this module is to develop the student’s ability to comprehend more complex Spanish, including the use of conditionals, future, and hypothetical situations at an advanced level.

Enrollments and Selection Criteria for Online Courses

Enrollments for the online language courses at the Federal Institute of Southern Minas will take place from January 24 to February 2, 2022, and will be conducted through the form attached to the Notice. No registration fees will be charged, and only one course will be allowed per student.

An Electronic Draw will take place on February 9, 2022, to select registered candidates if the number of spots exceeds available positions. All activities of the online courses will be taught until June 2022. To receive a completion certificate, students must present an average of 60% performance in course activities.
