BYD Dolphin x GWM Ora 03: The Battle of the Chinese Electric Cars Priced at R$ 150 Thousand. See the Pros and Cons of Each!

Since Yao Ming made his NBA debut, Xiaomi entered the market, and the latest film in the Rush Hour series, featuring Jackie Chan, was released, Brazilians have not witnessed a “Made in China” competition as exciting as the battle between the electric BYD Dolphin and GWM Ora 03. With prices around R$ 150 thousand, these vehicles from BYD and GWM have made a significant impact, even with their silent operation, according to the Auto Esporte website. Check out all the details about each electric car below.

Design and Dimensions: The Aesthetics in Dispute in Each Electric Car from BYD and GWM

The GWM Ora 03 draws more attention on the streets, with a retro-futuristic design reminiscent of a beefed-up Fiat Punto. Its 18-inch wheels and rear lights “inside” the glass make it a peculiar car. The BYD Dolphin, on the other hand, has a more conventional car aesthetic, with the internal arrangement of lights simulating ocean waves. Despite the differences, both have similar sizes, with an advantage for the Ora 03 in length, width, and height, but a disadvantage in wheelbase.

Performance and Behavior of the Electric Car from BYD and GWM

The GWM Ora 03 stands out with 171 hp of power and 25.5 kgfm of torque, against the 95 hp and 18.3 kgfm of the BYD Dolphin. In the zero to 100 km/h test, the Ora 03 is faster, taking only 8.2 seconds, while the Dolphin takes 10.9 seconds. Both have a calm behavior, with the Dolphin being more similar to medium hatchbacks and the Ora 03 feeling more solid and rigid.

Battery and Range

The batteries of each electric car have similar capacities, with the Dolphin offering a range of 291 km and the Ora 03, 232 km. The Dolphin has LFP (Lithium-Iron-Phosphate) batteries, known as “blade,” which ensure greater energy density, longevity, and safety against leaks. However, the charging of the Dolphin electric car is slower on “normal” outlets, taking over seven hours for a full charge, while the Ora 03 takes just over four hours.

Maintenance and Warranty: Highlighting Cost-Effectiveness

The Ora 03 has maintenance every 24,000 km, costing R$ 2,520 up to 72,000 km, while the Dolphin has maintenance every 20,000 km, costing R$ 2,880 up to 80,000 km. Both offer a five-year warranty for the cars and eight years for the batteries, with the Ora 03 also covering the electric motor for eight years.

And the Big Winner Was…

The GWM Ora 03 Skin stands out as the winner of this electric car duel, being more complete, powerful, and faster, in addition to offering more safety features. Its only disadvantage compared to the Dolphin is the smaller trunk, but this is offset by its surprising internal space. With a better cost/benefit ratio, the Ora 03 proves to be an excellent option among electric cars currently sold in Brazil.
