The occurrence caught the police’s attention due to the unusual sequence of decisions made by the driver, who ignored the initial warning and ended up encountering the checkpoint again on the highway, suffering more severe administrative consequences during the second stop.

During a police operation, the driver was stopped and asked to take a breathalyzer test, a standard procedure in alcohol checkpoints conducted in the early morning on regional highways.

According to the Military Police, this measure aims to reduce logistical troubles but depends on the responsibility of everyone involved, especially in the decision to keep the intoxicated driver away from the wheel.
After leaving the checkpoint, the group continued their journey normally, without any incidents reported at that first moment, giving the driver a false sense of security.
Driver Resumes Driving And Returns To Checkpoint
About half an hour later, the driver dismissed the friend, took control of the car again, and tried to proceed alone, believing he would not pass by the checkpoint again.
However, upon making a wrong turn on the highway, he ended up returning along the same route and was stopped again, being recognized by the same officers who had issued the first fine.
During the second approach, he refused to take the breathalyzer test again, which worsened the situation and resulted in not only a new violation but also the immediate seizure of the vehicle and the suspension of the driver’s license.
Penalties Increased And Alert From Authorities
With the recurrence within a short interval, the driver faced harsher administrative penalties, including the temporary loss of the right to drive and additional costs to recover the seized car.
The Military Police warned that if an accident had occurred during the journey between the two approaches, the person who returned the keys to the intoxicated driver could be held legally responsible for the incident.
Authorities emphasize that driving under the influence of alcohol poses a direct risk to the driver’s and others’ lives, being one of the leading causes of serious accidents on urban and state highways.
The case, recorded on a highway in Ribeirão Preto, was highlighted by the program Balanço Geral from TV Record and serves as an example of the risks and legal consequences of reckless decisions behind the wheel.
