BRDE Expands Investments from the Green Fund to Strengthen Sustainability with Support for Paraná Projects Focused on Environmental Innovation, Biodiversity Conservation, and Water Security in the State.

The Green Fund managed by BRDE (Regional Development Bank of the Southern Extreme) is set to increase investments in sustainability in 2026 with direct support for Paraná projects aimed at environmental preservation, technological innovation, and social development. According to an official publication from the Government of Paraná this Friday (27), the forecast is to allocate over R$ 3.5 million in Paraná, within a total estimated amount of about R$ 10.8 million for the South Region, also covering Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul.

The amounts represent a growth of more than 50% compared to the previous year, indicating the expansion of the program and the consolidation of a policy that transforms part of the bank’s financial results into concrete socio-environmental impact. Since 2021, the fund has already mobilized over R$ 25 million in environmental and social projects across the three Southern states.

The program directs resources to scientific research, environmental conservation, water security, and the transition to more sustainable production models. The initiative also strengthens the bank’s role as a regional development agent committed to innovation and the protection of natural resources.

BRDE’s Green Fund Directs Resources for Sustainability in Paraná

The Green Fund is formed from 1.5% of BRDE’s annual net profit, allocated to initiatives related to environmental sustainability and social equity. The resources are divided equally among Paraná, Santa Catarina, and Rio Grande do Sul, ensuring regional balance in investments.

In Paraná, the resources are mainly applied through public calls and tenders aimed at Paraná projects with potential positive environmental impact. Each regional agency of the bank conducts its selection processes, respecting technical and strategic criteria.

The initiative is part of an institutional strategy that seeks to connect economic development with environmental responsibility. The model adopted by the bank allows financial results to be converted into practical actions aimed at environmental protection and improving social conditions.

According to the bank’s CEO, Renê Garcia Junior, the program demonstrates the institution’s development vision, based on the integration of economic growth, environmental preservation, and social inclusion.

Paraná Projects Funded by the Green Fund and BRDE Expand Environmental Impact

The Paraná projects supported by the Green Fund from BRDE include scientific, technological, and environmental initiatives focused on practical solutions for current environmental challenges.

Among the actions already funded are 16 scientific, technological, and innovative research projects, developed at public and private higher education institutions in Paraná. The technical management is conducted by Fundação Araucária, responsible for the operational implementation of applications and project selection.

Each initiative can receive up to R$ 200,000, allocated for the development of applicable solutions in different sectors. The goal is to stimulate projects that transform academic knowledge into concrete benefits for society.

The research covers strategic areas such as:

  • Sustainable protection and use of water
  • Prevention and control of pollution
  • Biodiversity restoration
  • Mitigation and adaptation to climate change
  • Circular economy
  • Resilient and sustainable agriculture
  • Promotion of economic and social equity

These investments enable the generation of applied knowledge, enhancing the state’s capacity to respond to increasingly complex environmental challenges.

Partnerships Expand the Reach of Environmental Initiatives in the State

The program also stands out for its partnerships with public and private institutions, broadening the reach of environmental and social actions.

One of the initiatives involves the Boticário Group Foundation for Nature Protection, which receives support for projects aimed at the conservation of the Atlantic Forest. The actions seek to integrate environmental preservation with income generation, encouraging nature tourism and strengthening local communities.

The agenda of water security also integrates the program’s priorities. Projects will be selected in municipalities served by the Integrated Public Supply System of Greater Curitiba and by the Upper Iguaçu river basin.

These initiatives seek to increase the resilience of cities against climate impacts and improve the management of water resources, which are considered strategic for regional development.

According to the director of Science, Technology, and Innovation at Fundação Araucária, Luiz Márcio Spinosa, the goal is to transform public resources into applied knowledge capable of anticipating environmental impacts and protecting essential biomes.

Sustainability and Innovation Gain Strength with Paraná Projects Supported by the Green Fund

In addition to scientific research, the program also finances initiatives aimed at environmental innovation and productive modernization. These actions expand the program’s reach and strengthen the sustainability ecosystem in the state.

Among the planned projects is an initiative for generating and acquiring biodiversity credits, conducted in partnership with the Paraná State Department of Sustainable Development. The proposal aims to stimulate environmental conservation through economic instruments.

Another important front involves industrial decarbonization. The program plans specialized consultancies operated by the Industry Social Service (Sesi), aimed at reducing emissions and improving energy efficiency.

These actions show that the Paraná projects supported by the program are not limited to academic research, also including applicable solutions in the productive sector.

According to the bank’s administrative director in Paraná, Heraldo Neves, the diversity of themes covered demonstrates alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals and the 2030 Agenda.

Technical Criteria Ensure Measurable Results

The selection process prioritizes projects with high impact potential and proven execution capacity. The choice of initiatives follows technical criteria defined by the bank and by partner institutions.

Among the evaluated factors are the technical consistency of proposals, the feasibility of implementation, and the ability to generate measurable results. This model seeks to ensure that resources are applied efficiently and transparently.

According to the bank’s superintendent in Paraná, Paulo Starke, the priority is to support initiatives with scale potential that are aligned with global climate and biodiversity agendas.

Transparency is also reinforced by the public disclosure of approved projects, invested amounts, and the progress of actions through the bank’s portal.

Investments from the Green Fund of BRDE Reinforce Paraná’s Environmental Role

The investments of the Green Fund show how BRDE has expanded its role in promoting sustainability by supporting Paraná projects with environmental and social impact.

The forecast to allocate over R$ 3.5 million in 2026, within a total of R$ 10.8 million in the South Region, demonstrates the program’s expansion and the strengthening of regional environmental policies. The history of over R$ 25 million invested between 2021 and 2025 indicates continuity and growth of actions.

By financing research, preserving biodiversity, strengthening water security, and promoting industrial decarbonization, the program contributes to making regional development more balanced and resilient.

The initiative demonstrates that environmental financing policies can generate concrete benefits, promoting scientific innovation, protecting natural resources, and creating new economic opportunities for the state.
