Recently, a scientific discovery brought a new perspective to the enigma. Simon Boxall, an oceanographer at the University of Southampton, believes that the answer may lie in the powerful natural forces that inhabit the Bermuda Triangle.
What Is the Bermuda Triangle?
The Bermuda Triangle is an area connecting points between Miami, Puerto Rico, and Bermuda. Since the mid-20th century, it became famous for reports of inexplicable disappearances of vessels and aircraft.

Simon Boxall explained on the Channel 5 program The Bermuda Triangle Enigma how these waves can be created by the interaction of storms to the north and south of the Triangle. “If more storms from Florida converge, this can generate waves with immense destructive potential,” says the expert.
Imagine a wall of water as high as a building. These waves could easily swallow entire ships, leaving little to no evidence.
The Gulf Stream and Its Deadly Traps
Another natural factor that seems to contribute to the mystery is the Gulf Stream, a powerful ocean current that crosses the Bermuda Triangle.
This current not only alters weather conditions rapidly but can also create dangerous whirlpools and areas of instability at sea. Many of the reported disappearances coincide with regions where the Gulf Stream is most active, indicating that it may be a key piece of the puzzle.
Debunking Conspiracies
Although scientific explanations are convincing, conspiracy theories continue to attract followers. From anomalous magnetic fields to alien abductions, supernatural stories seem to resist logic.
Why does this happen? Perhaps because mystery, when wrapped in fiction, becomes more fascinating. However, for many experts, phenomena like giant waves and the Gulf Stream already offer sufficiently plausible explanations for what occurs in the Bermuda Triangle.
Despite scientific advances, the Bermuda Triangle still holds secrets. The unpredictable conditions of the sea and weather, combined with the lack of accurate historical data on some incidents, make it difficult to reach a definitive conclusion.
