Project Promotes Foresees Payment of R$ 300 Per Month for Six Months for Up to One Thousand Families Who Enter the Formal Market and Meet Criteria Established by the City Hall of Criciúma

Beneficiaries of the Family Grant Who Obtain Formal Employment may receive up to R$ 1,800 in temporary financial support, if the City Council approves the bill submitted in 2025.

The mayor Vagner Espíndola (PSD), of the municipality of Criciúma, presented the proposal and created the Municipal Income and Opportunity Program for Occupation, Appreciation, and Employment (Promove).

According to the City Hall, the program offers support during the transitional assistance phase, a period when the value of the Family Grant decreases or ends after an increase in income due to formal employment.

The mayor presented the text to the councilors at the Municipal Palace and initiated the official proceedings this week in 2025, with analysis in committees before the vote in plenary.

Temporary Payment Seeks Stability in Transition

The Promove guarantees R$ 300 monthly for up to six months, totaling R$ 1,800 per family. The municipality will allocate the benefit to up to one thousand families who manage to establish a formal work relationship. The amount will serve as income supplementation during the adaptation to the new financial scenario.

The Executive considers this stage sensitive for low-income families who are leaving comprehensive assistance.

Defined Criteria to Receive the Aid

To receive the municipal benefit, the citizen must meet the requirements set forth in the project. They must maintain an active formal employment relationship, reside in the municipality, prove participation or attendance in training courses recognized by the municipal administration, be registered in the CadÚnico, and remain within the protection rules of the Family Grant.

If the worker loses their job and returns to receiving the full value of the Family Grant, the municipality will automatically suspend the complementary aid.

Socio-Assistential Monitoring and Promotion of Autonomy

In addition to financial support, the municipal team will provide continuous socio-assistential monitoring. The program will also encourage actions for professional training and strengthening financial autonomy. According to Vagner Espíndola, entering the formal market can generate initial instability, especially for low-income families.

He highlighted that, in 2025, the municipality recorded a decrease in the number of beneficiaries of the Family Grant, which expanded cases of transitional assistance and required complementary measures.

City Hall Reinforces Complementary Nature of the Program

The mayor stated that the absence of adequate policies during the transition could lead families back to social vulnerability. He emphasized that the Promove does not replace the Family Grant, as it operates in a subsidiary, temporary, and focused manner, with clear criteria for entry, retention, and exit.

Now, the committees of the Chamber are analyzing the project before the final vote. If the councilors approve the proposal, the municipality may benefit up to one thousand families who leave the Family Grant after entering the formal market.

Given this scenario, will the temporary support of up to R$ 1,800 be able to strengthen the financial autonomy of families and prevent a return to social vulnerability?
