The Brazilian Navy announced, in March 2025, the holding of a public competition, which will offer 174 positions aimed at candidates with higher education. Distribution of Positions
Approved candidates will enter as Midshipmen and, after completing the Training Course, may be promoted to the rank of First Lieutenant. According to the Brazilian Navy, the available positions are organized as follows:
- Technical Corps – 62 positions.
- Corps of Engineers – 25 positions.
- Corps of Physicians – 75 positions.
- Health Support Corps – 7 positions.
- Corps of Dentists – 4 positions.
- Corps of Naval Chaplains – 1 position.
Participation Requirements

- Be a native Brazilian;
- Be between 18 and 35 years old by June 30, 2026 (except for Naval Chaplains);
- Have a higher education diploma in the relevant field;
- Be registered with the professional council of the respective category;
- Present documentation as required in the notice.
Specific Requirements for Naval Chaplains
Candidates for the Corps of Naval Chaplains must fulfill additional requirements:
- Be between 30 and 40 years old;
- Have a recognized higher theological education by the ecclesiastical authority;
- Have at least three years of experience in pastoral activities;
- Present official authorization from the religious entity to which they are affiliated.
Competition Stages
The selection process of the Brazilian Navy will be conducted in several phases, as described in the Navy News Agency:
- Objective test of professional knowledge and writing;
- Discursive test of professional knowledge (applicable only to Law and Engineering);
- Translation test (exclusive to Engineering);
- Verification of biographical data and documentation;
- Health inspection;
- Psychological evaluation;
- Title examination;
- Physical fitness test.

Officer Training Course
Approved candidates will, therefore, enter the Officer Training Course (CFO), which will be held at the Admiral Wandenkolk Instruction Center (CIAW), located in Rio de Janeiro.
