The Brazilian Startup Gaia Electric Revealed at the Automotive Business Experience 2019 Symposium Its Intent to Market an Electric Vehicle Focused on Urban Use That Promises to Have 200 km of Range at a Suggested Price of R$ 60 Thousand.

A new Brazilian company called Gaia Electric Motors announced its intention to market an electric vehicle that stands out for its 200 km range. It is a tricycle (with a single rear wheel). According to Ivan Gorski, CEO of Gaia Electric, it will cost “up to R$ 60 thousand,” and its full recharge will consume about R$ 8.00 in electric energy tariff (being 20 times more efficient than a gasoline-powered car), and it takes 8 hours to reach a full charge.

The car, also called Gaia, requires that the user has a license to drive motorcycles. The initial sales focus of the vehicle is for the corporate market. Selling to consumers is not ruled out, but there is no date set for that to happen.

Ivan also revealed that the vehicle can also serve as a source of energy if the owner needs electricity. The small car has two tandem seats and instead of a steering wheel, it has handlebars.

With a body without doors, like the Renault Twizy, the Gaia Zero will have alloy wheels and bucket-type seats. At the back, the taillights will be LED.

Designed to be shared as well, the Gaia Zero does not have a physical key, being unlocked by a smartphone. According to the company, it can be shared via email or WhatsApp.

Equipped with two electric motors that total 68 horsepower, the Gaia Zero is described as a vehicle with the performance of a car with a 1.6 engine. Its maximum speed is 130 km/h, thus it can be used even on highways.

Sales will start soon, and reservations can be made with a down payment of R$ 300. The factory was supposed to be started in the first quarter, according to the website. The delivery forecast is still unknown.

The 100% electric cars that will be sold in Brazil this year, such as the Nissan Leaf, Chevrolet Bolt, Jac E40, and Renault Zoe, will have suggested prices ranging from R$ 130 to 180 thousand.
