Coffee grower in MG saves 71% with solar energy from Solarprime, investing in his own brand and more machinery, avoiding the red flag.

A coffee producer in Minas Gerais saw a significant 71% reduction in his electricity bills by adopting solar energy solutions. With the savings, he had the opportunity to expand his business, developing his own coffee brand and investing in more equipment. This strategic move allowed him to overcome the challenges associated with high tariffs, often caused by cost fluctuations such as the red flag.

The adoption of solar energy reflects a growing trend among farmers to seek more economical and sustainable alternatives. Photovoltaic energy, a key component of this system, has proven to be a viable solution for those who want to reduce their environmental impact while cutting costs. Investing in renewable energy sources, such as solar energy, not only contributes to a greener planet, but also offers farmers a way to financially protect their businesses. Investing in sustainable technology has become essential for the future of the agricultural sector, expanding horizons and ensuring more efficient operations.

The data already clearly demonstrates this trend, and today, agribusiness accounts for 14% of solar energy generation capacity in Brazil. This is equivalent to a production of 4,2 megawatts (MW), from around 234 thousand distributed generation (DG) systems spread throughout Brazil.

Small Farmers and Sustainability

Increasingly embracing sustainability, small farmers are also looking for alternatives to reduce energy costs and avoid the impacts of Red flag in the accounts. Within this context, the coffee grower from São Sebastião do Paraíso-MG, Ricardo Fernando da Silva, chose to establish a photovoltaic energy project on his property, located in the Termópolis region.

Before implementing the solar project, small farmers spent around R$700 per month just to pay their electricity bill. With the introduction of solar energy, this amount dropped to less than R$200, resulting in a 71% reduction in expenses.

Sustainable Economy and Investments

Since 2021, the savings generated by the project have already reached R$29. These resources have allowed Ricardo to invest in the expansion of his coffee brand, 'Terra dos Ipês', which is now more prominent at industry fairs, in addition to reinforcing its visibility through marketing campaigns. 'With the savings obtained, we have also expanded the acquisition of machinery for drying and processing coffee, increasing the quality of the product. Given the success of the project, we are already considering expanding solar energy systems in the future', anticipates Ricardo.

Solarprime and Solar Energy Franchises

The photovoltaic project carried out by the Solarprime franchise network includes 16 solar panels — 12 of 400Wp and four of 550Wp — ensuring a monthly energy production of 858 kWh.
Under the Solarprime brand, recognized for its photovoltaic solar energy solutions since 2014, the expansion took place through a franchise model present in all 26 Brazilian states and the Federal District, totaling more than 460 units.

Energy and Sustainability Solutions

In 2016, the founders of Solarprime saw an opportunity to diversify their business across the country, aiming to offer consumers a solution that combines financial savings and sustainable energy. This has put the company at the top of the list as the largest solar energy franchise network in Brazil, certified by the ABF (Brazilian Franchising Association).

In 2024, Solarprime moved up 24 positions in the ABF ranking, positioning itself among the top 20 microfranchises in the country, occupying 15th place.
