The trajectory of the Ford Maverick in Brazil, a car that promised to be an affordable and exciting sports car, but ended up not meeting expectations and being surpassed even by compact models on the current market in terms of performance, according to the Auto Papo portal.
In the Brazilian automotive scene, the history of some vehicles transcends its characteristics techniques, marking eras and generating fervent debates. The Ford Maverick is a classic example, launched with the promise of revolutionizing the affordable sports car segment, but ending up as a huge disappointment for many.
The Maverick was designed with the ambition of capturing the hearts of Brazilians, promising a driving experience that combines emotion and performance at an affordable price.
Development and problems of the Ford Maverick
Despite its attractive aesthetics and the heritage of a strong name, the Maverick faced several problems from the beginning. Initially, it was positioned as a sports car with a relatively affordable price, aiming to dominate a niche market that was growing in Brazil. However, even with significant investments — more than R$20 million adjusted to current currency just in development — the car was unable to surpass or even match its direct competitors, such as the Chevy Opala, which was already firmly established and was much loved by Brazilians.
- China accelerates electric revolution and transforms global market: devastating impact on the automotive industry and oil redefines the economic and environmental scenario of the future!
- Costing around R$60, the Honda Amaze does 19,4 km/L with 681 km of autonomy and consolidates itself as one of the best sedans in the automotive industry
- Renault surprises the market: new generation of Clio arrives in 2026 after 178.902 units sold in Europe!
- Sudden shutdown problems on the move led mining company Vale to BAN all Fiat Toro 2.0 diesels from its fleet, made up of more than 3.000 vehicles
The Maverick was criticized for several technical aspects, such as a lack of stability, poor rear visibility, and inadequate brakes for its power. The performance of versions with a six-cylinder engine was noticeably lower than that of more modern compact models, according to the Auto Chat.
Legacy
Despite Ford's efforts to adapt the Maverick to Brazilian tastes and conditions, the car never managed to achieve the expected popularity. Sold for just six years in Brazil, from 1973 to 1979, the Maverick left a legacy of disappointment for many of its buyers.

Sold for just six years in Brazil, from 1973 to 1979, the Maverick left a legacy of disappointment for many of its buyers. In 1975, it broke its sales record, with around 29.000 units sold. This value, however, was considered low, as its main competitor, the Chevrolet Opala, sold around 128.000 units in the same year.
Today, the Ford Maverick is a fond memory for many drivers and enthusiasts. However, it also serves as a symbol of an era and continues to be a prized collector's piece by enthusiasts who are willing to pay high prices for a model in good condition. The Maverick's story reflects not only the challenges of the automobile industry, but also the affection and nostalgia that certain cars can inspire, regardless of their technical merits.
I have a Maverick V8 and I do not agree with some of the statements in the article about visibility and brakes. The car is very smooth and fast. Very comfortable and has equipment that was in keeping with the period.

I'll tell you or you tell me and I haven't even had anything to drink yet but these guys are crazy or the drug is branded
I completely agree, only those who have had it can speak
Sad to know that a classic like the maverick is being compared with a Fiat mobbi, a car so desired by car lovers...sad...
Fiat Mobi… Comparison without any logic.
It could just be a bad arm, I had a V8 and it screamed at everyone who tried to get there! Ford's stupid factory defects: weak differential and spar could not support the weight of the heavy engine. Easy to fix but they discontinued the model. I had a 6 cc too, never had any problems.
Heavy aero willis engine
Matter ****!
Fiat Mobi lol
This Rafaela can only be from the PT.
Understands the subject well.
Congratulations sub intern
I don't see anything wrong with the (Maverick), even though I'm not a [Driver], I know it from advertisements as I've also seen it in person in [ORIGINAL or Modified] form by owners or drivers who are fond of the vehicle. If it were possible, in today's times, an [Advanced and Stylized] version could be launched like the [Chevrolet Camaro], with cutting-edge technology, Modern Systems and a lot of (Comfort and Sportiness]. – alcione.rodrigues738.ar5749@gmail.com
You can say what you want, I had several Maverick's 4cc, 6cc and 8cc
And really 4cc was weak, now 6 and 8cc, compare with 1.0 hatch and the end of the sting, talk of those who never sat down and took some splits (at the time) with opal, RT charm, puma,….
Talk about the new generation, you can never evaluate these classics and only in literature.
