Attention, drivers! The toll on BR-262 has skyrocketed! Now, those who drive along this stretch of the highway will pay up to 49% more. And there's more: two new toll plazas are coming, raising costs even further!
From Friday, March 21, 2025, the trip along BR-262, between Uberaba e Betim, it will be more expensive.
The toll, which was already considered a significant expense, underwent a readjustment of up to 49%, which should have a direct impact on the pockets of drivers who travel along the Rota do Zebu, a 440 km stretch of this important highway.
The total cost of the ticket for those going from Uberaba to Betim, round trip, arrives at R$82, which represents an increase of about 35%, since previously drivers paid R$60,80.

The adjustment was not uniform and varied between 15 49% and%, depending on the square of Toll.
With the new values, anyone traveling along BR-262 will find four toll plazas along the route.
The charge will be made in the cities of Partridges (R$ 10,30), Campos Altos (R$ 10), Light (R$ 10,40) e Forestry (R$ 10,30).
O the biggest increase was recorded in Florestal, with a readjustment of 49%, which caused the toll value to rise from R$6,90 to R$10,30.
For those traveling the entire length of the highway, the toll cost will be R$41, an increase in 34,8% in relation to the previous value.
In addition, other two toll plazas must be built in New Serrana e Araxá, which will further increase the cost of the trip.
Although the values of these future toll plazas have not been disclosed, it is estimated that the total toll will reach more than R$ 60 when the works are completed.
These increases have an explanation: the transition of highway administration, which was previously under the responsibility of Triumph Concebra, which managed BR-262 since 2014.
Since October 2024, the Way-262, a new company created to take over the concession, began to manage the section.
The change of concession was the result of a rebidding, after Triunfo Concebra claimed financial difficulties to make the necessary investments, such as duplication and improvements on the highway.
Investments and improvements for BR-262
Despite the impact of the increase, the National Land Transport Agency (ANTT) guarantees that the new concession will bring benefits to drivers.
O Acting Director General of ANTT, Guilherme Theo Sampaio, explained that the new toll values are aligned with the planned investments to the road.
Sampaio highlighted that, previously, the tariff did not include the necessary investments and that now the resources will be allocated to significant improvements.
To minimize the financial impact, ANTT implemented discount programs.
Drivers who use TAG will have 5% automatic discount.
Those who use the highway daily, such as workers and students, will be able to count on progressive discounts of up to 50%, thus reducing the total toll amount.
We also pack any motorcyclists will follow exempt from paying the toll, which represents a significant saving for those who use the highway in this category.
The future of the highway: more safety and fewer accidents
The concession also brings with it a package of improvements that promises to transform the BR-262 infrastructure.
Among the main projects are the duplication of 44,3 kilometers, implementation of 169 kilometers of additional lanes and the construction of 17 pedestrian walkways e 100 bus stops.
The construction of three wildlife crossings and a point of stop and rest.
These changes are seen as an important step forward for increase road safety, since BR-262 is considered one of the most dangerous highways in Brazil.
Guilherme Theo Sampaio highlighted the logistics efficiency that modernization will bring, not only to the Minas Gerais state, but also for the agribusiness national, since the region is an important production hub.
The concession contract also provides for a investment of BRL 8,54 billion.
Of this total, $ 4,39 billion will be allocated to infrastructure works and $ 4,14 billion to maintenance and operation of the highway along the 30 years of concession.
The expectation is that these investments will help reduce the number of accidents, improving the quality of the road and, consequently, the safety of those who travel there.
Economic impact and job creation
Another positive point of the new concession is job creation.
A Way-262 has already absorbed most of the employees of Triumph Concebra and, with the planned works, more Job opportunities must arise.
The modernization of the highway should also generate a positive economic impact for the municipalities crossed by BR-262, who should benefit from the economic movement generated by the new operations.
It is worth remembering that the process of modernization occurs after the exit of Triumph Concebra, who requested the revocation of the contract in 2020, claiming inability to bear the costs of duplication and other obligations.
Of the total 600 kilometers of works foreseen in the original contract, only 84 km have been delivered to date.
The Ministry of Transport then decided divide the highway into smaller sections, which made it possible to separate concession of the Uberaba-Betim section, enabling the auction to be held in 2024.
