National Recognition, Robust Investments, and High-Technology Projects Drive Equatorial Group’s Innovation Strategy in 2024 and 2025.
The Equatorial Group was recognized as one of the most innovative companies in Brazil by the Valor Inovação 2025 Award, promoted by the newspaper Valor Econômico in partnership with Strategy&, from PwC. The company achieved 58th overall position and 7th place in the electric energy sector, reinforcing its role as a national reference in technology, efficiency, and innovation.
The company has prioritized digital transformation as a foundation for sustainable growth. In 2025 alone, R$ 187 million was allocated to innovation projects, demonstrating the commitment to modernize operations, reduce losses, and improve customer experience.
Equatorial’s Innovation Strategy and Pillars
Equatorial’s trajectory is supported by four main pillars: operational efficiency, service excellence, reduction of technical and commercial losses, and energy transition. This strategy, adopted since 2024, strengthens the company’s competitiveness in the national market.

According to Maurício Velloso, Director of Innovation, Customers, and Services, the recognition is a direct result of collective work: “Our team works daily to transform the electric sector with technological and consistent solutions. Innovating is anticipating the future and making it a reality in the present,” said the executive during the award ceremony in July 2025, in São Paulo.
Applied Technologies and Concrete Advances
Among the initiatives that are already transforming the day-to-day operations of the company are the use of artificial intelligence for loss reduction, the automatic reconnection of electrical networks, and advanced data analysis to enhance customer relationships. These actions, implemented since the beginning of 2025, increase the reliability of supply and enhance the efficiency of the group’s distributors.
Furthermore, the company invests in system automation, energy storage, and digital solutions that optimize the control of electrical loads, ensuring quality and stability in supply for millions of Brazilians.
EQT Lab: Equatorial’s Innovation Center
The EQT Lab, the Equatorial Group’s innovation hub, is today one of the largest applied research centers in the Brazilian electric sector. With units in São Luís (MA) and Porto Alegre (RS), the laboratory conducts more than 50 simultaneous projects aimed at the technological transformation of the group’s distributors and transmitters.
Among the highlighted projects are the GPS Project, which utilizes satellite images and AI to map energy theft, and the Smart Networks Project, developed in partnership with the Brazilian Air Force (FAB). This initiative modernized the electrical infrastructure of the Alcântara Launch Base (MA) and, since April 2025, is being implemented at the Anápolis Air Base (GO), focusing on renewable generation, advanced control, and energy storage.
Investments and Significant Results
Equatorial reinforces its leadership in innovation with solid results. In 2024, the group allocated R$ 68 million in Research, Development, and Innovation (R&D&I) and R$ 73 million in Energy Efficiency Programs (EEP), amounts that paved the way for the growth of current projects. These investments helped consolidate the company as the first multi-utility in Brazil, operating in energy, sanitation, and telecommunications.
The group’s efforts also engage with the global energy transition agenda. The company seeks to integrate renewable sources, process digitalization, and continuous innovation as foundations for the future of the Brazilian electric sector.
