1924 Ford Model T Coupe, Kept in the Same Family for 100 Years, Sold for US$ 27,000 After 61 Bids at Auction Without Reserve on Bring a Trailer, Surpassing the Annual Average of US$ 13,479 Registered for Seven Units Sold Last Year

A 1924 Ford Model T Coupe, kept in the same family for 100 years, was sold for US$ 27,000 on February 8, after 61 bids at auction without reserve on Bring a Trailer, marking the transition to a new owner.

Ford Model T Crosses a Century with the Same Family

The Ford Model T was launched by Ford in 1908 and sold over 15 million units until the end of production in 1927. Known as Tin Lizzy, it is widely considered the first affordable car in the world.

The 1924 example remained with the same family for 100 years. Bought new in 1924, it stayed under family ownership until 2024, when it was acquired by the seller who recently put it up for sale.

Although rare, it is still possible to find vehicles over 100 years old outside of museums. The 1924 Ford Model T was listed on the Bring a Trailer website, the platform where the auction took place this month.

General Condition and Features of the 1924 Ford Model T

The 102-year-old vehicle retains only traces of its original black paint. It shows some corrosion and a small tear on the rear of the roof. Still, considering its age, it has remained in very good overall condition.

The Ford Model T features 23-inch wooden spoke wheels and Wards Riverside tires. There is also a spare tire mounted on the rear, protected by a cover with the Ford logo.

The interior has been reupholstered in gray wool with pinstripes. According to the listing information, the cabin appears to be in excellent condition, reflecting care taken over the years.

Mechanics, Performance, and Maintenance History

Under the hood, the Ford Model T is equipped with a 177 cubic inch inline four-cylinder engine, equivalent to 2.9 liters, with a factory-rated power of 20 horsepower.

The mechanical setup is paired with a two-speed planetary gear transmission. The engine has undergone maintenance, including coil replacement and repair of a cracked cylinder head.

According to the seller, the car runs well. He stated that one cannot fully understand the Model T until driving it, highlighting the unique experience provided by the vehicle.

The Ford Model T typically reached a top speed between 40 and 45 miles per hour. The odometer shows 32,000 miles, but it is broken, and the actual mileage remains unknown.

The sale included some spare parts intended for the next owner, expanding the set delivered with the historic automobile.

Auction Without Reserve and Value Above Annual Average

The Ford Model T was listed for sale on Bring a Trailer without reserve. The auction attracted 61 bids, and more than a thousand enthusiasts followed the process until its conclusion on February 8.

In the end, the car was sold for US$ 27,000 to the highest bidder. The amount exceeded the average recorded for similar models last year.

According to the website classic.com, seven 1924 Ford Model T cars were sold in the last year, with an average price of US$ 13,479. The cheapest example sold for US$ 7,000.

This was the most expensive among the seven, fetching US$ 27,000. The result positions the vehicle as a recent highlight among transactions of the model, reinforcing the historical relevance of the Ford Model T in the collectors’ market.
