The Toyota Corolla Hybrid X, entry-level version in Japan, has a suggested price of 2,279,200 yen – approximately R$ 88 thousand in direct conversion. Meanwhile, the top-of-the-line version, the Touring Active Sport Hybrid E-Four, costs 3,416,600 yen (around R$ 132 thousand).
For comparison, a Volkswagen Polo Highline 200 TSI in Brazil has a starting price of R$ 135,990, according to the official Volkswagen website. In other words, the new hybrid Corolla, with all its technology and dual powertrain, enters the market at a price lower than that of compact hatches in Brazil.
The launch of the new versions of Toyota occurs in stages: the Corolla Sport (hatch) arrives at Japanese dealerships on May 9, while the sedan and Touring (wagon) versions will be available starting May 19.
