Recording under strong sunlight was not an obstacle for Paloma Cipriano, who decided to demonstrate in practice how it is possible to build a water tank pool with a pine wood deck while spending little and making better use of the backyard. Right at the beginning of the video, she reveals that the idea came after receiving several suggestions from followers asking her to reproduce the project. The result drew attention precisely for combining low cost, reinforced structure, and compact solution to face the heat.
The information was shared by Paloma Cipriano in a video published on her YouTube channel, in which she details all the construction steps, explains the material choices, and warns about important points, such as the wood’s durability and future maintenance needs.
From the start, Paloma makes it clear that pine wood is not the most durable option on the market for building a pool deck. However, according to her, it is currently the cheapest alternative available. Furthermore, by applying varnish correctly, it is possible to ensure a reasonable durability — although not permanent. Over time, the wood may warp or even rot, requiring replacement. Therefore, the choice depends on the budget and expected use.

Reinforced Structure with Two Squares and Central Support Ensure Pool Stability
Before the pool installation, the space was completely empty. The first step was to assemble a structural square with the purchased wood, forming the base of the deck. Then, Paloma secured the pieces at the bottom and added side supports and one in the center of the structure, reinforcing all sides so that the deck could support the weight of the water.
After that, she positioned the water tank in its final location and built a smaller second square around it, ensuring that the pool was very stable. In total, two structural squares were made, one larger and one smaller, both with joints created by recessing the ends of the wood for better fastening.
The next step was the covering with boards. The chosen pieces were 15 centimeters wide, a measurement that she had purchased ready-made to avoid extra work. However, Paloma explains that if someone wants a finish more akin to a professional deck, they can opt for smaller boards or even cut the larger ones in half.
Since the tank was already installed, each board had to be individually measured and cut to perfectly outline the circular structure. This way, the finish was adjusted to the water tank.
Finish with Bitumen, Varnish, and Nearly 80 cm Height Requires Attention to Safety
An important detail highlighted by Paloma was the decision to position the final finish below the edge of the water tank, and not above. According to her, this prevents accidents, as the very edge of the tank acts as protection in case someone bumps into it or falls.
After securing all the boards on the top and sides, it was time for finishing. She only sanded the top, as the boards came with a thick layer that made the surface relatively smooth.
Next, she applied bitumen mixed with paint thinner to darken the wood and avoid the very light appearance of pine. Finally, she used varnish on the outer side, emphasizing that ideally, the product should be applied to all pieces before assembly. However, as she did not have enough and chose not to buy more, she focused the finish on the most exposed area.
Another point that deserves attention is the height of the structure: nearly 80 centimeters. Therefore, Paloma comments that it would be ideal to install a ladder to facilitate access. However, since the backyard space is limited, she decided not to install a ladder and opted to sit on the edge before entering the pool.
Water Tank Pool Without Filter and Plumbing: Provisional Solution for the Summer
Although the structure is ready for use, Paloma admits that she did not install a filter or plumbing system in the pool at this initial moment. According to her, the decision was strategic: since the heat was already intense, the priority was to use the pool quickly.
Still, she claims that she intends to adapt filter and plumbing in the future, as the process is not difficult and can be done later.
The pool was not yet completely full at the time of the test, but it was enough to prove that the structure was stable and functional. Thus, the project consolidates itself as an economic alternative for those who want a pool in the summer but do not have a large space or a high budget.
