Structure of the EAD Specialization in Language Studies from IFMG
The postgraduate program integrates the continuing education policy of IFMG and focuses on the performance of language professionals in basic education, emphasizing teaching Portuguese language and literature.
Although offered in the EAD modality, the course combines asynchronous activities with regular synchronous meetings, aimed at supporting the disciplines and providing academic guidance.
According to the notice, in addition to fulfilling the curriculum matrix, students must develop a Course Completion Paper (TCC) in the form of an academic article.
To obtain the specialist title, the regulation provides for two possibilities.
The first is the publication of the article in a journal in the field of Language Studies or Linguistics, with a minimum classification of Qualis B4.
The second alternative is the defense of the work in front of an examination board, under the guidance of an instructor accredited to the course.
Course Load, Duration, and Organization of Online Classes
The total course load of the specialization is 360 hours.
Of this total, 300 hours correspond to the mandatory subjects.
The remaining 60 hours are dedicated to the development of the TCC.
The maximum period for course completion is 24 months, which includes all academic stages outlined in the pedagogical project.
Although offered online, attendance at live meetings is mandatory.
According to the academic schedule described in the notice, synchronous classes will occur weekly, always on Thursdays, in the evening.
The document does not detail the exact course load of each meeting but states that attendance in these activities is a requirement for course completion.
Offered Spots and Reserve Criteria in the Selection Process
The notice provides for the offer of 60 spots for admission in the first semester of 2026.
Of this total, 45 spots are intended for open competition.
The other 15 spots are reserved for affirmative actions, according to the institutional policy adopted by IFMG.
The reserved spots are distributed among candidates who are Black, Brown, or Indigenous, quilombola individuals, people with disabilities, and transgender or transvestite individuals.
The notice also establishes that if there are not enough applicants in any of these categories, the remaining spots may be redistributed to open competition, respecting the final classification order.
Specifically for Black and Brown candidates, the selection process provides for the possibility of a heteroidentification procedure.
This procedure will be conducted online, according to dates and guidelines published by IFMG throughout the schedule.
Who Can Enroll in the IFMG Specialization
Only candidates who have a bachelor’s degree in Language Studies may enroll.
The notice makes it explicit that degrees in other areas will not be accepted, regardless of previous professional experience in teaching.
The requirement, according to the official document, seeks to ensure that entrants have academic training compatible with the content covered throughout the specialization.
Furthermore, IFMG establishes that the bachelor’s degree must be completed by the time of enrollment, under penalty of denial.
Selection Stages: Curriculum Analysis and Online Interview
The selection will be carried out in two stages, both of a classificatory nature.
The first consists of curriculum and supporting documents analysis, submitted at the time of enrollment.
In this phase, the evaluation committee assigns scores based on criteria such as academic training, professional experience, and scientific production, according to the detailed criteria in the notice.
In the second stage, the classified candidates participate in an online interview, which will be conducted via the Google Meet platform.
According to the process rules, up to 96 candidates may be invited to this stage.
Failure to attend on the defined date and time results in automatic disqualification.
The final score will be obtained by the sum of the scores from both stages.
In case of a tie, the notice establishes tiebreaking criteria, such as age and type of bachelor’s degree in Language Studies.
All dates regarding result announcements, appeal periods, and calls are detailed in the official schedule of the selection process.
Among the main milestones, IFMG plans to announce the approved registrations on January 12, with a deadline for appeals until the following day.
The result of the curriculum analysis is expected to be published on January 15.
The interviews are scheduled to take place between January 19 and 22, at various times.
The final result is expected on February 2, followed by the enrollment request period, from February 4 to 6, in the institution’s electronic system.
