Find Out If Your Stepson Is Entitled to Family Allowance and Know What Documents to Present to Secure the INSS Benefit. Practical Tips Not to Miss the Payment.

The family allowance is a benefit from INSS aimed at low-income workers, designed to assist with expenses related to children and dependents. But did you know that stepsons can also be included?

As long as there is proof of legal affiliation with the insured worker, the stepson has the same rights as biological or adopted children, ensuring financial support for the family.

Family Allowance: What It Means and Who Can Receive It?

The benefit acts as a supplement to the monthly income, helping families that rely on the salary registered in a work contract.

Those eligible include:

  • Employees with a registered work contract (CLT)
  • Freelance workers
  • Special insured workers

Self-employed or individual contributors do not have the right to this benefit.

The amount paid is calculated per dependent and updated annually, based on the insured person’s salary range.

Inclusion of Stepsons as Dependents

According to the website Meu Tudo, a stepson is entitled to family allowance if legally recognized as a dependent of the insured worker.

To do this, it is necessary to prove stable union or marriage with the parent of the child.

The Social Security system equates stepsons with biological children, providing the same protection and financial responsibility.

Required Documents for Verification

To request the benefit in the name of the stepson, the worker needs to present:

  • Birth certificate of the stepson
  • Dependent’s CPF
  • Marriage certificate or declaration of stable union recorded at the registry office
  • Updated vaccination card (for children up to 6 years old)
  • Proof of school attendance (starting from 7 years old)

Keeping these documents updated is essential to ensure that the request is not denied.

Situations That May Prevent Benefit Receipt

The family allowance is guaranteed only when all documentation is correct and within the criteria set by INSS.

The benefit may be denied if there is a lack of proof of stable union or marriage, if the documents are incomplete or inconsistent, or if the worker’s income exceeds the established limit.

Additionally, delays in updating the vaccination card or presenting proof of school attendance may result in payment suspension.

Thus, keeping all paperwork up to date is crucial to ensure that the right to the benefit is preserved.

How to Request Family Allowance?

The procedure depends on the worker’s situation:

  • Employees with signed contracts: must submit the documents to the Human Resources department, which will make the payment directly, later compensating with INSS.
  • Those on leave, unemployed, or INSS beneficiaries: must request it directly from INSS, via the Meu INSS app, official website, or at agencies by appointment.

Maintaining the benefit requires annual document updates, including vaccination cards for children up to 6 years old and proof of school attendance starting from 7 years old.

The family allowance provides financial support to families with children or stepsons, ensuring equal rights and reinforcing family income.

With the correct proof of the relationship and dependency, all dependents can be included, strengthening the family’s economic security and facilitating education, healthcare, and food expenses.
