New inspection system promises to increase safety on Brazilian highways with advanced technology
Starting this Monday (14), anyone passing through the highway should be aware: the highway will be the first federal concession in Brazil to have a radar system that measures the average speed of vehicles. It began operating experimentally this week, bringing a new level of supervision for drivers traveling through the region.
How does average speed measurement work?
Unlike the radar traditional ones, which capture the speed at a specific point, the new system monitors the time it takes the driver to travel a distance. In BR 050 , for example, two radars are positioned at miles 171 and 182, in the sense Uberaba to Delta. When passing the first radar, the time is recorded. If the driver completes the route faster than the minimum time allowed, he will be considered in violation. Sounds simple, right? And it is!
The speed limit on the monitored stretch is 80 km/h , which means that the route must be completed in at least eight minutes. Any driver who travels a distance in less time will automatically be caught by exceed the limit of speed. And there's no point in "stepping your foot" at the beginning and then trying to hide it, because the system calculates the average speed for the entire journey.

Road safety: what changes with the new radar?
The great advantage of this model is that it “prevents” the famous trick of slowing down only when approaching a fixed radar. With the measurement of average speed , drivers will be required to respect the speed limit speed along the entire route, thus increasing the financial security na highway. According to Bruno Araújo Silva, operations manager at Eco050, “This system expands the inspection area, which means that drivers will have to stay within the limit at all times, with no escape".
Countries like Italy have been using this technology for years and have recorded a reduction of up to 50% in road accident deaths in the first 12 months of use. In other words, it's not just a question of fines: it's about saving lives.
Educational action for offending drivers
On launch day, the Eco050 expedition, together with the Federal Highway Police (PRF), will carry out an educational action at km 193 of BR 050 . Drivers who are caught above the speed allowed will be selective and guided on how the new technology works. After all, in addition to being an innovative system, it is a way to ensure that everyone travels more safely on the highway .
So if you usually catch the BR 050 , you already know: respect the limits of speed now it will be essential to avoid fines and, of course, guarantee your financial security and that of the other drivers.
Stay tuned and have a good trip!
