Free Access to Mastercard VIP Lounges in Guarulhos No Longer Automatic and Requires Minimum Spending of R$ 15 Thousand in Three Bills, a Change That Affects Frequent Travelers and High-Income Customers.

Starting from September 1st, free access to the VIP Lounge and the Mastercard Black Lounge at the Terminal 3 of Guarulhos International Airport will require minimum spending on the card.

The free access remains only for Mastercard Black holders (primary or additional) who can prove R$ 15 thousand in total expenses in the three previous bills before the visit.

Those who do not reach the threshold will only be able to enter upon payment, according to the policy in place at the location and from the issuer.

Free access to Mastercard VIP lounges in Guarulhos now requires a minimum spending of R$ 15 thousand in three bills.
Free access to Mastercard VIP lounges in Guarulhos now requires a minimum spending of R$ 15 thousand in three bills.

What Changes in Access in Guarulhos

Until August, it was enough to present the credit card and the boarding pass to access the two spaces managed by the brand.

According to the website Melhores Destinos, with the new guideline, simply having the plastic is no longer sufficient.

The eligibility now depends on recent card usage and, according to Mastercard, the rules may vary by issuing bank, although the quarterly spending verification standard has been consolidated as a reference.

R$ 15 Thousand Rule Becomes a Parameter Among Issuers

Banks such as Bradesco, Sisprime, C6 Bank, and BTG Pactual have announced that they will adopt the R$ 15 thousand accumulated in the three previous bills as a criterion to maintain free access to the brand’s lounges in Guarulhos.

In practice, this represents an average of R$ 5 thousand per bill over the quarter.

The issuers recommend that customers check their official channels to confirm details such as expense tracking, additional cards, guests, and possible exceptions.

Temporary Exception from C6 Bank Until 2026

Although following the same consumption standard, C6 Bank has established a transition period.

For C6 Black, Carbon, and Graphene clients, the requirement of R$ 15 thousand will be applied only from February 2026.

Until then, access remains free to the Mastercard lounges in Terminal 3, without the need to prove minimum spending.

The bank recommends monitoring communications through its channels, as complementary rules may be updated over the period.

The Club by Mastercard Keeps Own Policy

The change does not extend to The Club by Mastercard, also located in Terminal 3.

The space continues with independent rules and will remain free of cost for holders of Itaú The One and for other selected Mastercard Black cards, upon invitation from the issuing bank. In other words, the new spending requirement does not alter the eligibility of this specific lounge.

How Minimum Spending Check Works

The criterion considers the total expenses made in the three bills immediately prior to the date of the visit.

Generally, the verification is done at the moment of access, with validation of the card and the parameters defined by the issuer.

Expenses outside the assessment window do not count towards the calculation. Additionally, each institution may determine how to handle installment purchases, refunded credits, bill payments, and the use of points, among other operational situations.

If the Client Does Not Reach the Required Amount

Those who do not reach the minimum amount remain eligible for access upon payment, subject to availability and the conditions of the day.

Values, time limits, and policies for guests may vary according to the issuer and the management of the spaces.

If in doubt, the recommendation is to check the rules of the respective bank in advance and confirm if there are additional costs for guests, potential visit limits, or specific requirements for additional cards.

What Remains the Same and What May Vary

The location of the lounges remains unchanged in Terminal 3, which is dedicated to international flights, and the boarding pass remains mandatory for entry.

On the other hand, the number of free accesses per year, handling of additional cards, and policies for guests may have peculiarities at each issuer.

Even though the brand has introduced a spending floor, the concrete application of the criterion depends on the contractual rules of each bank, which may be revised over time.

Impact on Frequent Travelers

The change mainly affects clients who previously had unlimited access simply by possessing the Mastercard Black.

For those flying for work, the new requirement demands advance planning of expenses in the previous quarter before embarkation.

For occasional users, it may be necessary to compare the cost of potential individual accesses with alternatives such as partner programs of the bank, third-party lounges at the airport, and benefits from other brands and cards.

Advice to Passengers Before Boarding

It is worth reviewing the credit card statement to check whether the R$ 15 thousand threshold has been reached during the assessment period.

It is also advisable to confirm with the issuer whether additional cards count towards the same goal, what the guest rules are, and whether there are annual limits.

In case of ineligibility, it is prudent to check the price of paid access and the conditions on the day, avoiding surprises at boarding.

For those invited to The Club by Mastercard, the rule remains the same and does not depend on quarterly spending.
