MEC launches national competition for teachers: A revolutionary step to combat the lack of education professionals in Brazil
The Ministry of Education (MEC) announced a new unified competition for the selection of teachers in public schools throughout Brazil. This measure is a significant step forward, as it will allow states and municipalities to use a standardized assessment method to select teachers. This represents a practical solution to streamline processes and reduce costs for education networks.
Known as the “Teachers’ Enem”, the competition is part of a set of actions that value the teaching career. In addition to the test, the package includes the “Pé-de-Meia” program for Undergraduate Degrees, with scholarships intended to support future teachers. In November, the government should detail all of these initiatives, as indicated by the Minister of Education, Camilo Santana, during G20 meetings in Fortaleza.
This news is encouraging for education professionals who are looking for new opportunities. With this initiative, states and municipalities will be able to offer positions for temporary professionals and create a national registry of teachers. Thus, the measure promises to help meet the demand for qualified educators in public schools.

An innovative step by the MEC to combat the lack of teachers in Brazil
Leonardo Barchini, executive secretary of the MEC, explained how the “Teachers’ Enem” will work in practice. According to him, the choice of a unified competition meets the demand of both states and municipalities, which face difficulties in filling teaching positions on an ongoing basis. The idea is that each federative entity decides whether to use the MEC exam or whether to maintain its own selection processes, ensuring autonomy in the process.
The great advantage of this competition is the standardization of teacher selection, which will reduce the need for separate processes in each region. According to Barchini, this format will allow savings for federal entities, which, by joining the national process, will be able to allocate the budget previously used in competitions to other priority areas.
Funding guaranteed for the “Teachers’ Enem”
The budget needed to make the competition viable has already been planned, Barchini assured. The MEC has planned the resources to organize the process, in order to guarantee that the exam is well-designed and offered at no additional cost to the states and municipalities that join the initiative. In this way, the government ensures a consistent and high-quality selection process nationwide.
This will allow educational managers to rely on a secure tool to select educators. The possibility of free participation in the MEC competition is an attractive opportunity for public schools, as it facilitates access to qualified professionals at a lower cost.
Positive impact on Brazilian public education
With the adoption of a unified selection process, we expect a fairer and more efficient selection of teachers, in addition to a consistent criteria base in all regions of the country. The scholarships for undergraduate students aim to attract new professionals to the teaching profession, contributing to a more robust public education.
This measure represents a step forward in the valorization of teaching and in the strengthening of basic education, by promoting greater efficiency and savings for states and municipalities. With the new competition, it is expected to improve the quality of education and guarantee opportunities for professionals interested in working in public schools.

Good evening, is there a date for this competition to take place, it is for all educational levels.
Will it be for the federal sphere (institutes)?
If the Ministry of Education is really concerned about the issue of having too many temporary teachers, the federal government does not create a law that requires calling up the reserve list for public competitions. Several municipalities in the country have an active reserve list and do not call anyone.
It will certainly be a great gain for education professionals and a major step forward in the field of education. Congratulations! I look forward to finding out the registration date.
