Environmental Police Caught Illegal Deforestation In A Protected Area. The Owners Of A Mansion Ordered The Removal Of Vegetation For A privileged View Of The Lagoon.
In a scenario where environmental preservation becomes increasingly crucial, actions that put protected areas at risk draw attention and generate heated debates.
Recently, an episode involving illegal intervention in a preservation area within a high-end condominium brought to light issues regarding environmental responsibility and the limits between private interests and the common good.
At the beginning of February 2025, environmental military police caught an irregular deforestation in an Environmental Protection Area (APA) located in the luxury condominium Boulevard Lagoa, in the Boulevard Lagoa neighborhood, in the city of Serra, Espírito Santo.

The illegal intervention occurred in the APA of Lagoa Jacuném and, according to reports from those involved, was carried out at the request of the owners of a mansion who wanted to open a view to the lagoon.
The discovery occurred on February 6, following an anonymous tip.
At the site, the military confirmed the cutting of native trees in mid-regeneration stage, according to information gathered by Jornal Tempo Novo.
A man, identified as responsible for the company hired to carry out the deforestation, admitted to not having authorization for the intervention and reported using a chainsaw, machete, and knife for the removal of vegetation.
Marks on the tree trunks confirmed the use of these tools.
During the testimony, the person responsible for the deforestation indicated a second individual as the contractor for the intervention.
When questioned, this second individual confirmed that the work was underway at the residence and that the mansion owners had requested the deforestation to obtain a privileged view of the lagoon.
At the luxury condominium, the police found two tree trunks, while the other woody residues had already been discarded by the workers.
The two men were taken to the 3rd Regional Police Station for questioning.
The Serra City Hall was called to apply administrative sanctions, including fines, since the area is a municipal APA.
The investigation continues to determine the responsibility of the mansion owners in the environmental crime.
According to the site Tempo Novo, the report contacted Serra City Hall for information on the measures taken. As soon as there is a response, the text will be updated with new information.

History Of Environmental Occurrences In Boulevard Lagoa
This is not the first environmental incident reported in the Boulevard Lagoa condominium.
In July 2021, the Municipal Secretary of the Environment fined the condominium R$ 50,000 for the removal of vegetation in a 1,000 square meter Environmental Protection Zone (ZPA) within the development.
At that time, the condominium administration denied committing an environmental crime, claiming that the area cleaning aimed to facilitate access for firefighting vehicles.
The director of security, maintenance, and works of the Boulevard Lagoa association, Enio Carlos Prudente, stated that the area contained only brachiaria vegetation used for animal feed and that the intervention sought to prevent fire risks due to the dry climate.
The Importance Of Preserving Lagoa Jacuném
Lagoa Jacuném is an area of significant ecological importance in the Serra region. As part of a municipal APA, the lagoon is home to various species of fauna and flora, some of which are rare or endangered.
The preservation of this ecosystem is essential to maintain environmental balance and the quality of life for local residents.
Illegal interventions in protected areas can cause irreversible damage to the environment, affecting not only biodiversity but also the ecosystem services that these areas provide, such as climate regulation, water purification, and protection against erosion.
Environmental Responsibility And Legal Consequences
Brazilian legislation is strict regarding the protection of environmental preservation areas.
Unauthorized interventions in APAs constitute an environmental crime, subject to penalties that include fines and, in more severe cases, detention of those responsible.
In addition to legal sanctions, such actions can result in damage to the reputation of those involved and additional costs for the repair of environmental damage caused.
Awareness and respect for environmental regulations are essential to ensure the preservation of natural resources and the sustainability of communities.
Property owners, especially in areas near sensitive ecosystems, should be aware of their responsibilities and always seek guidance from environmental agencies before undertaking any intervention.
