According to the INSS (National Institute of Social Security), individual microentrepreneurs in compliance with their contributions can apply for sick leave assistance, receiving a minimum wage per month for at least 60 days of absence.

This measure offers a significant financial relief for thousands of self-employed workers who, in addition to dealing with illness, also face concerns about bills and maintaining income. To access the benefit, it is necessary to meet some basic contribution and medical verification requirements.

Who Can Receive Financial Assistance for MEI

The benefit is intended for any MEI insured by the INSS who proves temporary incapacity to work. To qualify, one must have made at least 12 monthly contributions before the application. The process involves a medical examination, which can be conducted in person or, in some cases, replaced by a medical certificate issued no more than 30 days ago.

How Much the MEI Receives in Financial Assistance

The amount of financial assistance for MEI corresponds to a minimum wage per month. The duration of payment varies according to the medical evaluation, but the minimum guaranteed absence period is 60 days. There is no fixed maximum period: the benefit remains while the medical expert deems that the worker is unable to perform their duties.

This support is essential to provide security to the microentrepreneur who relies on daily work to support their family, avoiding situations of vulnerability during health treatment.

How to Request Financial Assistance for MEI

The request must be made through the Meu INSS app or website. The process is simple:

Log in to the platform.
Select the option “What do you need?”.
Type “Sick Leave Assistance”.
Fill out the information and schedule the medical examination.

Depending on the situation, the service may be remote or in person. In specific cases, the submission of a digital medical certificate may replace the examination. After the assessment, the result can be tracked through the system or by calling the INSS. In the event of denial, the MEI can still appeal the decision.

Sim, MEI deveria ter mais benefícios. Sou MEI e cai no trabalho. Lecionei o tendão da perna esquerda. Faz três anos e não tenho um laudo médico e continuo fazendo fisioterapia pelo SUS. Passo por dificuldades diárias até hoje por ser MEI.

Tive CÂNCER ,fiquei sem poder trabalhar. Pago tudo em dias e quando precisei do INSS foi uma humilhação . O cara que se diz ” médico” nem para mim olhava! Cirurgiada, levantou meu braço na maior ignorância,cheguei a gritar de dor! Vou deixar de pagar ,isso é a maior humilhação!
