Survey Brings Together Structures Built Over More Than 4,500 Years, Weighing Between 953 Million and 52.6 Billion Kg, Including Walls, Dams, Pyramids, Crane Ships, and Offshore Platforms That Lead the Ranking of the Heaviest in the World

Neither the space station nor the Eiffel Tower are included in the list of the heaviest in the world. The ranking of the five heaviest man-made objects includes structures weighing up to 52.6 billion kg, distributed among China, Egypt, and the North Sea.

Great Wall of China Leads Among the Heaviest in the World

The Great Wall of China occupies the first place among the heaviest in the world. Its construction spanned centuries and extends over 21,000 km. The estimated weight exceeds 52.6 billion kg, making it the heaviest structure ever built by humanity.

This data places the wall at the absolute top of the list of the heaviest in the world. It is a wholly man-made structure, excluding mountains and natural formations, according to the criteria adopted in the survey.

Three Gorges Dam Reinforces Chinese Presence Among the Heaviest in the World

In second place among the heaviest in the world is the Three Gorges Hydroelectric Power Station, also located in China. The structure exceeds 9 billion kg and is considered the largest hydroelectric dam on the planet.

In addition to its impressive weight, the dam is regarded as a fundamental pillar of the country’s energy supply. Its structural volume consolidates its position in the ranking of the heaviest in the world.

Pyramid of Khufu Represents Antiquity in the Ranking of the Heaviest in the World

Third place among the heaviest in the world belongs to the Great Pyramid of Khufu in Egypt. The construction weighs approximately 5.75 billion kg and was built over 4,500 years ago.

The pyramid is described as a millennial testament to human engineering. Even after millennia, it remains among the heaviest man-made objects in the world.

SSCV Thialf and Gullfaks C Complete the List of the Heaviest in the World

In the maritime sector, the crane ship SSCV Thialf appears with nearly 953 million kg. It is the largest of its kind and plays a fundamental role in the construction of offshore oil platforms, as explained by Marine Insight.

Closing the list of the heaviest in the world is the Gullfaks C oil storage platform in the North Sea, with a weight exceeding 1.36 billion kg. Designed to process and store crude oil, it is essential for the global energy industry.

The Gullfaks C is described as very similar to the Troll A platform, which weighs more than 1 million tons. These megastructures highlight human capacity to erect works of colossal dimensions, whose weight reflects their impact and relevance throughout history and technological development.
