Proposed Changes Include Increase of Minimum Age and Threat to Guaranteed Benefits, Raising Alarm Among Workers.
The possible new Social Security reform, scheduled for 2027, is already concerning experts and insured individuals across Brazil. The discussions raise the possibility of deep changes, which may include raising the minimum retirement age, ending the linkage to the minimum wage, and reviewing the rights of specific groups.
According to Social Security lawyer Tais Santos in a video posted on the 30th, the risk of severe changes requires immediate attention from those who are already eligible for retirement.
For her, waiting may mean irreversible losses, repeating the scenario of 2019, when millions were adversely affected by the reform approved that year.

What Can Change in 2027
Among the most controversial points is the proposal to unlink benefits from the minimum wage, creating space for pensions to fall below the national floor.
Additionally, there is debate over the increase of the minimum age to 67 years for both men and women, a measure that would directly impact those close to retirement.
Another critical point is the possibility of eliminating differentiated rules for workers exposed to harmful agents and people with disabilities, who currently have reduced requirements for benefit eligibility.
For Tais Santos, these changes represent a risk of social exclusion, as they disregard historical inequalities in the labor market.
Impact on the Insured
If approved, the new rules could reduce the income of millions of Brazilians. Benefits below the minimum wage would signify an unprecedented setback, jeopardizing the survival of entire families who depend on Social Security.
Moreover, increasing the minimum age would make access to rights even more distant, especially for those working in more strenuous activities.
The lawyer emphasizes that the government’s argument and that of organizations such as the World Bank is one of fiscal balance.
However, for workers, this may mean more sacrifices. “Whenever there is a reform, the insured is the one who pays the price”, warns Tais Santos.
Why Act Now
According to experts, those who already have the right should submit their retirement requests as soon as possible to avoid surprises.
Retirement planning is identified as essential for determining the right time to request benefits and minimizing risks of loss.
Tais Santos reinforces that, although there is still no official text, the political and economic debate surrounding the new Social Security reform is intense.
Experience shows that, even with transition rules, many insured individuals end up disadvantaged, either with lower benefits or with stricter requirements.
The debate on the new Social Security reform in 2027 already exposes the tension between fiscal balance and social protection. If confirmed, the changes may redefine the lives of millions of Brazilians, especially the most vulnerable.
And you, do you believe that the country needs another Social Security reform or do you think that workers have already paid too high a price in 2019? Leave your opinion in the comments — your experience can enrich this debate.

Bom dia!!
