Train Between Salvador and Feira de Santana Can Benefit 4 Million People. Will the Investment of R$ 2.6 Billion Solve Transportation Problems in Bahia?
The Federal Government is about to revolutionize passenger rail transport in Brazil with a billion-dollar investment.
However, what draws attention is the promise of almost 4 million passengers who will be directly benefited by a system that is still in the planning stages.
Will this proposal really come to fruition?

In Dubai, rising tensions from the war in the Middle East are causing super-rich individuals to leave the Gulf and direct their fortunes to a new financial refuge in Asia.
While many eagerly await the modernization of public transport, the rail project between Salvador and Feira de Santana, in Bahia, is already in the spotlight.
But what is behind this development? And will this project really improve the lives of so many Brazilians?
Infra S.A., a company operating under the Ministry of Infrastructure, has signed contracts for Technical, Economic, and Environmental Feasibility Studies (EVTEA), aimed at studying new rail axes across the country.
The studies cover various regions, especially those that already have some infrastructure to support a train.
New Routes Under Study
Among the regions included are: Salvador (BA) – Feira de Santana (BA), São Luís (MA) – Itapecuru Mirim (MA), Fortaleza (CE) – Sobral (CE), Brasília (DF) – Luziânia (GO), Rio Grande (RS) – Pelotas (RS), and Londrina (PR) – Maringá (PR).
According to the website Bahia Econômica, the segment between Salvador and Feira de Santana is expected to be the first to have its studies completed, marking a new phase in the expansion of Brazilian rail transport.
These studies are a crucial step, as they provide essential information about the technical, economic, and environmental feasibility of each project.
According to the authorities, the first public hearings are expected to take place in 2025, with the goal of hearing the population and adjusting the details.
Impact of the Project in Bahia
The rail system between Salvador and Feira de Santana is expected to serve around 4 million people, a significant population living both in the two cities and the surrounding municipalities.
According to estimates, this would not only facilitate passenger movement but also boost the economic development of the region.
Public-Private Partnership on the Horizon?
The railway project gained even more importance when CCR, a company known for its work in the infrastructure sector, presented a Public Interest Manifestation (MIP).
This proposal seeks to establish a public-private partnership (PPP) for the company to take on both the construction and operation of the new transport system.
According to CCR, the estimated cost for building the railway line is R$ 2.6 billion, and once the system is operational, the annual maintenance cost would be around R$ 280 million.
The proposed concession contract by the company foresees a duration of 30 years, during which CCR would be responsible for the complete management of the rail modal.
Expectation for the Future
If everything goes as planned, in a few years, the residents of Bahia will be able to enjoy a modern and efficient rail transport.
However, many questions still linger about the new train: will the project be executed within the projected budget? Or could costs exceed expectations?
The economic feasibility of a project of this magnitude cannot be underestimated.
Still, the initiative arises at a time when the population is clamoring for improvements in public transport and sustainable alternatives that reduce the dependence on individual vehicles.
The definitive answer to these questions will only come after the completion of the studies and, above all, whether the project can attract the interest of the private sector to be part of this major transformation.
With the promise of benefiting millions of people and reducing transportation issues between Salvador and Feira de Santana, this new rail system has the potential to transform the lives of those living in the region.
But, as with any large infrastructure project in Brazil, the question remains: will this train arrive on time, within budget, or will it remain just a promise?
And you, do you believe this rail project will really meet the demand and transform transportation in Bahia? Or will it be another case of grand promises that remain unfulfilled? Leave your comment!
