Petrobras Biocombustível Strengthens International Presence by Sending B100 Biodiesel to Europe, Expanding the Use of Biofuels and Contributing to Emission Reduction in the German Market

Petrobras Biocombustível has reinforced its international operations by expanding the export of biodiesel to Europe, sending 2,500 tons of B100 biodiesel to Germany in an operation that marks Brazil’s advancement in the global biofuels trade. According to a report published by Brasil 247 on Wednesday (10), the action demonstrates the country’s ability to meet sustainable energy demands and also reinforces its leadership in low-carbon renewable fuels.

Petrobras Biocombustível and Inpasa Form Partnership

The export was carried out in partnership with the biorefinery Inpasa and met the stringent standards of the European market, which requires environmental certifications and complete traceability of the production chain. According to Petrobras Biocombustível, the biodiesel sent is produced from technical corn oil (TCO), a renewable raw material with superior environmental performance that allows an average reduction of 84.8% in CO₂ emissions compared to traditional fossil diesel.

The operation is especially relevant as it occurs during a global expansion of demand for renewable energy, with the European Union accelerating decarbonization policies and increasing the share of sustainable fuels in the energy matrix.

Expansion of Petrobras Biocombustível in the European Market

Petrobras Biocombustível has been strengthening its international presence with a focus on markets seeking low-carbon alternatives. Europe, especially Germany, is among the most strategic destinations due to its environmental rigor and the volume of sustainable fuel consumption.

The shipment of B100 biodiesel reinforces the company’s competitive insertion strategy in a market that, although demanding, offers great opportunities. Petrobras Biocombustível highlights that the product fully complies with European technical and environmental standards, which reinforces international confidence in the quality of Brazilian biodiesel.

At the same time, the operation reinforces Brazil’s role in the global energy transition. As one of the largest agricultural economies in the world, the country has ample biomass availability and a consolidated biofuels industry capable of meeting both domestic and external markets.

Competitiveness of Brazilian Biodiesel in Europe

The biodiesel exported by Petrobras Biocombustível stands out for its high environmental efficiency. The emission reductions exceeding 80% compared to mineral diesel meet the European Union’s stringent climate goals, which seeks clean energy sources to reduce greenhouse gases by 2050.

Furthermore, production from technical corn oil makes the product more competitive, as this raw material presents stability, high yield, and lower environmental impact in the industrial process.

Brazilian biodiesel also holds international certifications such as ISCC (International Sustainability and Carbon Certification), which ensure traceability and sustainability throughout the production chain.

The combination of competitive pricing, environmental certifications, and significant emission reductions makes national biodiesel highly attractive to Europe, which relies on imports to meet its growing demand for renewable fuels.

Production Structure of Petrobras Biocombustível and Internal Impact

Petrobras Biocombustível operates three industrial units in Brazil: Candeias (BA), Montes Claros (MG), and Quixadá (CE), with the first two certified for the export and sustainable production of biodiesel. The installed infrastructure allows the company to gradually expand its participation in the international market without compromising domestic supply.

These units stimulate regional production chains and strengthen partnerships with farmers, cooperatives, and local suppliers. The biofuels sector generates thousands of direct and indirect jobs and contributes to the economic development of producing regions.

In addition, the growth of exports encourages investment in technology, innovation, logistics, and industrial quality, increasing Brazilian competitiveness in the global energy landscape.

Importance of Biofuels for the Energy Transition

Biofuels play a central role in reducing global emissions and transitioning to less polluting energy sources. In Brazil, the sector already accounts for a significant portion of the renewable energy matrix, with highlights on ethanol and biodiesel.

The exported B100 biodiesel presents high environmental performance and therefore contributes to meeting international goals such as the Paris Agreement. In European countries, replacing fossil diesel with renewable fuels is essential to reduce the carbon footprint of road transport, especially for heavy vehicles.

In addition, the use of biodiesel helps diversify energy sources and reduces dependence on imported fossil fuels, strengthening energy security for both Brazil and Europe.

Commercial Impact of Biodiesel Export to Europe

The expansion of biodiesel exports represents a significant advancement for Brazilian foreign trade. The operation carried out in December strengthens Brazil’s image as a reliable supplier of renewable energy and reinforces Petrobras Biocombustível’s position as one of the leading companies in the sector in Latin America.

The European market is highly strategic as it has policies incentivizing the use of renewable fuels. Thus, the shipment of B100 biodiesel to Germany serves as a gateway for new operations with countries that share similar climate goals.

In addition to generating revenue and increasing the country’s competitiveness, exports stimulate the development of the national production chain, which includes agricultural producers, cooperatives, biorefineries, and specialized logistics.

The trend is that European demand will continue to grow over the coming decades, opening up space for the continuous expansion of Brazilian biodiesel in the global market.

Future Perspectives for Brazilian Biodiesel and Petrobras Biocombustível

The prospects are positive for the Brazilian biofuels sector and, especially, for Petrobras Biocombustível. The company demonstrates the ability to meet the highest international standards, which is essential for maintaining and expanding its presence in Europe.

As the world advances in the energy transition, biodiesel is likely to gain even more relevance, especially in challenging segments to electrify, such as heavy transport, agricultural machinery, and industrial operations.

Brazil has competitive advantages such as favorable climate, established technology, robust agricultural production, and experience in biofuels. Therefore, the country should continue to expand its participation in international trade, contributing to global decarbonization and strengthening its economy based on sustainable fuels.
