New Structure Promises to Revolutionize Gas and Oil Transportation — See How Petrobras and Coppe Will Do It.
Petrobras and Coppe/UFRJ (Alberto Luiz Coimbra Institute for Graduate Studies and Engineering Research, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro) will sign on Wednesday (16) a new milestone for the oil and gas sector in Brazil: the construction of the largest and most advanced Flow Assurance Loop in the country. The project aims to reduce losses and increase the efficiency of oil and gas transportation, enhancing operational safety.
Unprecedented Structure in Brazil to Combat Losses and Obstructions
The new Flow Loop will be installed at Coppe, on the UFRJ campus, and will consist of about 150 meters of piping, being the only structure in Brazil capable of conducting research with flows containing up to 100% CO₂.
This represents an important advancement also for carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) technologies.

Petrobras evaluates suspension of sales to distributors and considers canceling the cooking gas auction following guidelines from the Federal Government.
-
Lula reveals a masterstroke by Petrobras to undo a deal made by Bolsonaro, which involves the return of an important refinery that currently produces less than half of what was expected and makes Brazil dependent on international diesel.

A study confirms that the natural gas sector will reduce greenhouse gas emissions in Brazil by 0.5% and accelerate the energy transition by 2026.

Petrobras implements a severe adjustment and confirms a 55% increase in the price of aviation kerosene with a proposal for installment payments for the companies.
One of the major challenges for the industry is the control of hydrates and other phenomena that cause obstructions in pipelines.
These issues result in significant losses during the transportation of oil and gas.
With the new infrastructure, it will be possible to study these phenomena under conditions that simulate the real environment of the seabed, allowing for the development of more effective solutions.
Significant Cooperation Between Petrobras and Coppe
The partnership between Petrobras and Coppe is not new, but this new project reinforces the institutions’ commitment to technological innovation and the sustainable development of the oil and gas chain.
The signing ceremony will be attended by the President of Petrobras, Magda Chambriard, as well as authorities from UFRJ and the oil and gas sector.
The official launch of the cooperation for the construction of the Flow Assurance Loop will take place on April 16 at 10:30 AM in the Coppe Auditorium, located in Technology Center 2 at UFRJ – Rua Moniz de Aragão, 360, Block 1, Cidade Universitária.
The partnership between Petrobras and Coppe represents a leap in quality in mitigating losses and improving the flow of oil and gas in Brazil. The expectation is that the results will generate positive impacts for the entire industry.
