Executive Magda Chambriard Reveals That The Goal Must Be Achieved With New Platforms And Continuous Investments In The Pre-Salt Of The Santos Basin
Petrobras plans to accelerate its oil production in the Búzios field, located in the pre-salt of the Santos Basin.
This asset consolidates itself as one of the main projects of the state-owned company. According to CEO Magda Chambriard, the company is very close to reaching 1 million barrels per day. Furthermore, the volume could double in the coming years, marking a historic leap in the industry.
This statement was made on October 28, 2025, during the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) in Rio de Janeiro.
Gradual Expansion And Operational Milestones
Currently, the Búzios Field already stands out as the largest oil producer in the country. In August 2025, it recorded 821,88 thousand barrels per day (bpd), surpassing the Tupi Field for the first time, according to data from the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP).
This result represents a significant milestone in Petrobras’s history. Since the beginning of pre-salt exploration, the state-owned company has been heavily investing in technology to optimize production and reduce costs.
Additionally, Magda Chambriard emphasized that, with new platforms entering operation, the Búzios field could reach 2 million barrels per day. This goal strengthens Petrobras’s leadership in the energy sector, especially at a moment of global transition to cleaner sources. Thus, the company remains a reference for efficiency and innovation in the global scenario.
Investments And Strategic Partnerships
Petrobras acts as the main operator of the field, alongside the Chinese companies CNOOC and CNODC. This strategic partnership boosts extraction capacity and promotes the use of cutting-edge technologies.
As a result, the project stands out as one of the most promising in the global oil sector, both for its reserve volume and operational efficiency.
In October 2025, the executive director of Engineering, Technology and Innovation at Petrobras, Renata Baruzzi, stated that the Búzios field is expected to reach its production peak in 2033, reaching 1.8 million barrels per day.
According to her, the expansion is supported by constant investments and the integration of new FPSO units (floating production, storage and offloading). This strategy ensures operational stability, reduces risks, and guarantees long-term efficiency.
Perspectives For The Future
According to Magda Chambriard, the growth of Búzios continues at an accelerated pace, driven by technological modernization and the strengthening of operational teams.
She emphasized that, even in the face of logistical and environmental challenges, the project maintains full compliance with ANP and Ibama regulations. Moreover, the state-owned company reinforces its commitment to environmental responsibility and energy efficiency at all stages of production.
The advancements in Búzios also strengthen Brazil’s self-sufficiency in oil, positioning the country as a leader in responsible energy transition in Latin America.
Therefore, Petrobras continues to invest in innovation, sustainability, and productivity, which are essential pillars to achieve 2 million barrels per day by the end of the next decade.
Thus, the Búzios Field consolidates itself as a symbol of national technological advancement and a pillar of Brazilian energy sovereignty. The project reaffirms the country’s position in the global oil production scenario.
After all, to what extent will the pre-salt continue to transform Brazil’s energy future?
