According to Data from the Ministry of Mines and Energy, Petrobras’ Refinery Utilization Capacity is Around 66%

In the first half of April, the utilization factor of Petrobras’ refineries had fallen to less than 55%. Today, based on data released by the Ministry of Mines and Energy, the utilization capacity has stabilized at around 66%. In total, the state-owned company accounts for 99% of the refining capacity in the country.

Before the worsening of the coronavirus crisis in the country, as well as the implementation of restrictive measures on the movement of people, Petrobras’ refineries recorded a utilization factor above 75% (first half of March). However, due to a decrease in fuel demand in Brazil, activities in the refineries were scaled back.

The recovery in the utilization factor began in the past few weeks, when the index surpassed the 60% mark on April 22 and then stabilized at 66% between May 6 and 10, the latest data made available by the ministry.
