The Ship HMS Venturer Is The First Of Five New General-Purpose Vessels Of The Inspiration Class, Designed To Replace Older Frigates In The Fleet.
The HMS Venturer, the first of five new Type 31 frigates of the Royal Navy, was launched for the first time. The operation took place in Leith and marks a crucial step in the ship’s construction. Now, the vessel proceeds to Rosyth for continued equipment work and system integration, before sea trials.
A Milestone In The Journey Of HMS Venturer
The first entry of the HMS Venturer into the water represents a significant milestone in its construction. The operation was a carefully coordinated maritime transfer. After the procedure, the ship returned to the facilities at Rosyth. There, the builder Babcock will continue system integration and equipment installation.
“The first entry of HMS Venturer into the water is a clear demonstration of the UK’s sovereign capability in action,” said Nick Hine, Executive Director of Babcock’s Maritime Sector. He highlighted the company’s expertise and the excellent progress of the program, which will deliver five warships to the Royal Navy over the next decade.

With a length of 121 meters and four rigid sails of 36 meters that automatically rotate to capture the wind, Canopée is the world’s first hybrid industrial cargo ship powered by wind, used to transport rockets and reduce fuel consumption by up to 30% on transoceanic routes.
Meet The Type 31 Frigates (Inspiration Class) Of The Royal Navy

The Type 31 frigates are the next-generation general-purpose warships of the Royal Navy. They are also known as the Inspiration class. Their main goal is to replace some of the older Type 23 frigates, modernizing the fleet.
These ships have been designed as highly versatile, affordable, and adaptable platforms. They are suitable for a wide range of missions. Their tasks include maritime security, escort, disaster assistance, and future naval operations with unmanned systems.
Each Type 31 frigate has notable specifications:
- Length: Approximately 139 meters.
- Beam (width): About 20 meters.
- Displacement: Between 5,700 and 7,000 tons.
- Speed: Over 26 knots.
- Range: Approximately 7,500 nautical miles.
An Accelerated Program Of The Royal Navy Focused On Export
The construction program is progressing rapidly. It is currently in a multiple production phase, with three ships being built simultaneously. The Royal Navy will receive a total of five Type 31 frigates, with completion expected 10 years after the award of the initial contract.
The design of the ships is based on Babcock’s Arrowhead 140 design. This model has also achieved international success, being exported to Indonesia and Poland.
