In partnership with PUC-Rio and Petrobras, Ouro Negro developed MODA (Direct Optical Monitoring on the Wire) which minimizes costs and operational downtime on offshore oil and gas platforms
Ouro Negro is a technological innovation company oriented to the development of intelligent solutions for the exploration and production sector of the oil and gas industry. One of the technologies provided by the company, called MODA – Direct Optical Monitoring on the Wire – developed in partnership with PUC-Rio and Petrobras, was designed for application in already mature fields in the offshore segment.

O FASHION minimizes maintenance costs and operational downtime in offshore oil and gas units. It is a system based on fiber optic sensors that issues instant alerts in the event of breakage of wires in the traction armor of the flexible risers.
According to the CEO of Ouro Negro, Eduardo Costa, MODA Retrofit was a pioneering solution focused on oil and gas platforms that had been producing for some time, that is, fields considered mature, and needed to introduce technological innovations for monitoring its flexible risers.
The use of this technology has contributed to the resilience of offshore fields, which will be the subject of a webinar today (08/09), at 18 pm, promoted by the Brazil Section of the SPE (Society of Petroleum Engineers) and you can follow it in full through the video below.
Use of MODA in the Jupiter offshore field, located in the Santos basin and operated by Petrobras
Recently, Petrobras completed formation tests in a pre-salt exploration area called Jupiter, in the Santos basin, and found potential for “excellent productivity” from the asset, as the field contains oil with “high added value”.
The conclusion of these tests signals the importance of partnerships in the generation of disruptive or incremental technological solutions to optimize the development of assets in this new frontier, according to Ouro Negro.
According to Eduardo Costa, technologies such as MODA, qualified by Petrobras and used in several FPSOs in the Santos basin, as well as other innovations should enter the market in the coming years, and are being developed in partnership with oil companies Galp, Repsol Sinopec Brasil and PUC-Rio.
