International Seal Rekindles Interest in Gramado and Helps Create a Streamlined Itinerary, with Walkable Center, Black Lake, and Event Calendar That Alters the City’s Rhythm Without Relying on Winter.

Gramado, in the Serra Gaúcha, ranked 3rd in the “Travellers’ Choice, Best of the Best Destinations 2026” in the South America category, according to Tripadvisor, following evaluations conducted over a 12-month period of analyses and ratings by travelers.

The “Best of the Best” distinction is reserved for a small slice of the platform’s listings and, according to promotional materials from Tripadvisor itself, represents less than 1% of about eight million listings on the site.

With approximately 41.7 thousand residents, according to the latest estimated population available on the IBGE panel for the municipality, the city frequently appears in short itineraries by combining nearby attractions, tourist signage, and options for outings in different weather conditions.

At the same time, Tripadvisor’s result serves as a starting point for those arriving without a plan who want to fit in light walks, parks, and cuisine, without relying exclusively on the cold to find activity and a schedule.

Tripadvisor Ranking 2026 and Criteria for Best of the Best

The methodology disclosed by Tripadvisor states that the winners of 2026 were calculated based on the quality and quantity of reviews, considering accommodations, restaurants, and activities at destinations, with a cutoff from October 1, 2024, to September 30, 2025.

In practice, the seal usually reflects visitor satisfaction consistency rather than a single specific attraction, which helps explain why Gramado remains strong by offering both outdoor postcards and alternatives on rainy days.

Gramado Center and Covered Street in a Walking Itinerary

To experience the city without turning the trip into a sprint, the most common route starts in the center, where church, square, shops, and cafés appear in a short sequence, facilitating walking and quick photo pauses on tree-lined streets.

One of the most cited points in the urban core is the Covered Street, a corridor of about 100 meters with open access that connects Avenida Borges de Medeiros to Rua Garibaldi, serving as a meeting point in any season.

When rain interrupts outdoor plans, the space often keeps the outing going, since the covered structure allows for walking between shop windows and nearby tables, in addition to concentrating part of the flow around the Palace of Festivals.

The imagery of a “European city” primarily appears in the architecture and seasonal decoration, a combination that is reinforced during event times, but is also perceived on ordinary days when visitors seek a simple and repeatable itinerary.

Black Lake, Pedal Boats, and the Serra Gaúcha Landscape

Among the stops that fit into almost any itinerary, Black Lake often features early in the plan as it offers a leisurely walk, benches, and shade, as well as a pedal boat ride that serves as a pause in the middle of the day.

In material from the Ministry of Tourism, the location is described with “swan-shaped pedal boats” over dark waters, surrounded by pine trees, araucarias, and hydrangeas, an image that has become a symbol of the type of landscape associated with the Serra Gaúcha.

The logic for those traveling with family, as a couple, or alone is to alternate short distances with low-demand attractions, keeping Black Lake as an anchor between the center, parks, and food stops, without long hours in the car.

Gastronomy in Gramado: Fondue, Colonial Coffee, and Chocolate

Part of the destination’s appeal lies in the food, with a strong presence of fondue, colonial coffees, and chocolate, which favors planning in shifts, avoiding reserving too many “heavy” meals in a row and leaving space for walks.

On cold days, the itinerary tends to bring tables and closed attractions closer together, while in warm weather the same path often works with simple adjustments, such as prioritizing outdoor outings in the early morning and late afternoon, maintaining the center as a base.

For those who prefer variety without excess, the most common strategy is to treat chocolate as a break between tourist spots, rather than as a unique attraction, as the walk through the downtown area helps distribute consumption throughout the day.

Christmas Lights and Film Festival: Events That Impact the City

The event calendar is one of the local trademarks, and Gramadotur, the municipal authority linked to tourism and culture, disseminates and organizes a programming list that includes, among others, Christmas Lights and the Film Festival.

In the case of Christmas Lights, the 40th anniversary edition had official dates from October 23, 2025, to January 18, 2026, according to the event’s website, during which decorations and presentations spread across streets and public spaces.

Still in the commemorative edition, the organization reported recognition from the Guinness World Records for the format of 88 days, described as the world’s longest Christmas festival, in addition to mentioning about 2,500 professionals involved in the event’s execution.

Regarding financial figures, the organization of Christmas Lights reported an economic impact exceeding R$ 420 million on the local economy, and specialized coverage also recorded budgets in the tens of millions of reais, figures that help support the idea of a “million-dollar” event.

In a local publication that provided behind-the-scenes insights of the event, Events Director Stefano Roldo attributed planned results to team unity and commitment to the festival’s history, stating: “This was the foundation for us to achieve the planned results.”

The Gramado Film Festival usually concentrates activity around the Palace of Festivals, with an annual program disclosed by the event’s official channels and by the calendar of Gramadotur, which gathers dates of different attractions throughout the year.

Travel Itinerary in Gramado Without Turning into a Marathon

For a weekend, visitors usually cover the essentials with a first day in the downtown area, fitting in Covered Street and surroundings, and a second day with Black Lake and some paid attraction, leaving the evening for fondue and a short outing.

When the trip lasts three days, the trend is to ease the pace with coffee breaks and movements by blocks, alternating outdoor outings with closed options, which reduces frustration in case of rain and avoids concentrating everything in the same period.

With a week available, the city allows for repetition without guilt, as part of its charm lies in redoing parts of the center at different times, testing restaurants at a leisurely pace, and revisiting parks, while keeping a simple plan and adjustments according to the weather.

Tourism in Gramado and What Influences Travelers’ Reviews

Being on the 2026 ranking also coincides with an urban layout favorable to first-time visitors, as the compact center reduces travel barriers and, on cloudy days, visitors find alternatives in shopping and indoor attractions.

Moreover, Tripadvisor’s evaluation cutoff considers a continuous period of 12 months, which tends to reward destinations that maintain service standards and activity offerings in different seasons, not just at the height of winter.

With an estimated population of 41,705 people in the most recent data shown by IBGE for Gramado, the tourist infrastructure appears as a central part of the municipality’s dynamics, reflected in the offering of accommodations, restaurants, and recurring programming.

From walking in the center, taking a stroll around Black Lake, and choosing an evening to experience traditional cuisine, the experience tends to work through simple combinations, but that vary according to travel style and the event calendar.

If Gramado already has a “ready-made” itinerary for most visitors, what weighs more to transform a first trip into a future repetition: the landscape, the food, the events, or the feeling of an organized city?
