The Brazilian Army confirmed the purchase of 12 new Sikorsky UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters from the United States, in a deal that includes training, spare parts and other associated costs, totaling an investment of 1,2 billion reais.

In a strategic move to modernize its air forces, the Brazilian Army confirmed the acquisition of 12 Sikorsky UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters, coming directly from United States Army surplus stocks. These aircraft, which are part of a batch that exceeded American needs after a purchase of 255 units in 2022, will be used to replace older models and reinforce the Brazilian presence in critical missions, especially in the Amazon region.

The negotiation, estimated at approximately 1,2 billion reais, not only includes the aircraft, but also covers spare parts, staff training and the cost of transfers, ensuring that Brazil receives completely new helicopters that have never been used before. These aircraft are part of the US Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program, which allows the sale of surplus military equipment to allied nations. (Read more about).

The acquired Black Hawks will serve as utility helicopters, supporting various logistics and transport missions. With the capacity to carry up to 1.500 kg of internal load or 4.100 kg externally, the Black Hawks can accommodate 11 seated soldiers or six stretchers, making them ideal for operations in challenging environments such as the Amazon.

With a maximum speed of 294 km/h and a total length of 15,27 meters, the Sikorsky UH-60M Black Hawk is a crucial element for missions that require speed and efficiency. The first unit is expected to be delivered to Brazil in 2025, and the last is scheduled to be delivered in 2029, marking a significant upgrade in the operational capacity of the Brazilian Army.
