The Riachuelo and Humaitá Class Submarines of the Brazilian Navy Will Receive Maintenance Services from Itaguai Naval Construction Company (ICN) for the Next 22 Months After the Navy Directorate Signs a Contract with the Naval Industry Company.

During last Thursday, (08/18), the Directorate of the Brazilian Navy held an event for the signing of the Engineering Services Contract for the Maintenance of the “Riachuelo Class” Submarines at the Noble Hall of the Naval Arsenal of Rio de Janeiro. The contract was signed with Itaguai Naval Constructions, the ICN company, and will be essential to ensure greater safety and operational efficiency for the agency over the coming years.

Contract Between the Brazilian Navy and ICN Will Last for 22 Months and Provides for the Offering of Maintenance Services to the National Fleet Submarines

The Brazilian Navy continues to invest in improvements in safety and operational quality in its fleet of vessels and recently established another important partnership for the naval industry.

This is an Engineering Services Contract for the Maintenance of the “Riachuelo Class” Submarines, with the ICN company, which will provide its services to the Riachuelo and Humaitá submarines over the coming months.

The contract has an initial duration of 22 months for the provision of maintenance services for the submarines and also provides for corrective maintenance activities in cases of necessity during the agreement period.

The meeting for the signing of the contract was attended by the General Director of Navy Material (DGMM), Admiral José Augusto Vieira da Cunha de Menezes. In addition, the Industrial Director of the Navy, Vice Admiral Liberal Enio Zanelatto, was also present and was responsible for signing the contract with the President of Itaguai Naval Constructions, André Portalis, and the Industrial Director of the company, Vice Admiral Mario Ferreira Botelho.

The president of the maintenance services company ICN commented on the new contract with the Brazilian Navy and stated that “For me, this event is the first step to encompass this cooperation between the Navy and ICN, continuing with the Submarine Force, and greater cooperation with the Navy’s Industrial Directorate and with the DGMM, to enhance the power and operational availability of the Navy. This is our focus and our desire.”

Contract for Maintenance Services for Submarines Will Be Essential for the Future of the Brazilian Fleet

The Riachuelo Class submarines are the most important for the operations of the Brazilian Navy, as they not only ensure security within national territory but are also the most effective in the Brazilian fleet in combat.

Thus, the contract with ICN for the maintenance of the Riachuelo Class submarines was made with the aim of maintaining the operational availability of these means and fulfilling the mission of the Brazilian Navy over the next nearly two years.

Furthermore, the Brazilian Navy confirmed that the Submarine “Riachuelo” (S40), which represents the first of the four submarines of the Submarine Program (PROSUB), will undergo the area transfer process to the Operational Sector of the Naval Force at the beginning of September.
