A structure of 2 thousand meters cuts across the valley between Benedito Novo and Rodeio, in Santa Catarina, offering a flight that combines adrenaline, Atlantic Forest scenery, and speed that can reach 160 km/h.

The K2000, zip line of 2,000 meters in the Itajaí Valley, crosses the border between Benedito Novo and Rodeio, in Santa Catarina, and is promoted by operators as the “largest in the Americas.”

Installed at the top of Big Mountain Adventure Park, it combines an approximate height difference of 270 meters with sections of greater incline that, according to the park and regional reports, allow speeds of up to 160 km/h.

In practice, it connects two cities via a steel cable and has become one of the most well-known adventure attractions in the southern part of the country.

Aerial Line Connects Two Cities in SC

The main cable, made of galvanized steel, starts from a platform at the top of the mountain and descends to the base in Benedito Novo, crossing an area of Atlantic Forest and the Benedito River valley.

The crossing lasts less than two minutes and offers a broad view of the surroundings, with the possibility of spotting neighboring municipalities such as Rodeio, Ascurra, Apiúna, Indaial, and portions of Blumenau on clear visibility days.

Speed and Flight Formats

The operation works with two arrangements for the participant.

In the conventional model, the customer departs sitting in a harness, typically reaching speeds between 90 km/h and 120 km/h while crossing the valley with their body perpendicular to the cable.

In Speed Fly, an aerodynamic support keeps the body lying down and reduces air resistance, a condition in which the park claims it is possible to reach speeds of 160 km/h in steeper sections of the route.

Braking upon arrival is passive, made by energy absorption modules, with no need for manual action by the user.

Operation, Inspections, and Safety Protocols

According to the management of Big Mountain, the structure follows the requirements of ABNT NBR 15508-1, which establishes technical parameters for tree-climbing parks and includes specific guidelines for zip lines with steel cables, as well as providing for inspections and maintenance routines.

The system is described as redundant in the anchors and designed to withstand the tensile forces of the assembly, with periodic checking of the main cable.

The team operates on a “wind window” scheme: if the gusts exceed the defined internal limit, boarding is temporarily suspended until conditions return to a safe level.

Access and Operation

The K2000 is part of the route known as the Catarinense European Valley.

Boarding takes place at the top of the mountain, and the return of customers to the support area is made by vehicles from the park.

Ticket sales occur on-site and online, subject to schedule availability.

During dry weather periods, when visibility tends to be higher, the usual recommendation is to reserve in advance.

For those arriving independently, access is via local dirt roads from the urban areas of Benedito Novo and Rodeio.

Who Can Participate

The activity is classified as controlled adventure and has restrictions.

In general, the accepted weight range is from 35 kg to 120 kg, with checks of buckles, helmets, and fittings before departure.

Those under 18 years old need signed authorization from their guardians.

Pregnant women and people with heart conditions or other specific conditions indicated by the operator are not authorized to fly.

Since 2023, the upper platform features fixed ramps that allow assisted boarding for individuals who can transfer to the harness with the support of the team.

What Can Be Seen from Above

The descent covers stretches of secondary Atlantic Forest and rural areas.

Between winter and early spring, yellow ipe trees dot the landscape.

In cold weather, araucarias appear in the topography.

In summer, the more intense green contrasts with the reddish soil of cultivated slopes.

At the end of the route, the base maintains a small farmers’ market organized by local producers, offering items such as syrup, jams, and cold cuts.

Where the K2000 Ranks

Although the K2000 is the largest continuous zip line in Brazil and is promoted as the “largest in the Americas,” updated official lists and materials indicate that the continental record belongs to The Monster, at Toro Verde Adventure Park, in Orocovis, Puerto Rico, with 2,530 meters of cable — a measure exceeding the 2,000 meters of the K2000.

The Puerto Rican attraction also claims speeds close to 150 km/h and is part of the circuit of the largest zip lines in the world.

Comparisons in Brazil and the Region

Until the middle of the last decade, the national reference in length was the zip line from Pedra Bela (SP), with 1,900 meters and records of maximum speed around 107 km/h, still today one of the most sought-after descents in the Southeast.

In Espírito Santo, Pancas inaugurated in August 2024 a double circuit with approximately 3 kilometers combined, divided into 2,100 m and 900 m, a solution that does not surpass the K2000 in “single stretch,” but rivals in reach and speed, announcing peaks of up to 120 km/h.

Consensus on Measures and Speeds

There is agreement among tourism materials and reports that the K2000 has an extension close to 2 km and a height difference of about 270 m.

In terms of speed, the numbers vary by source and flight configuration.

Official profiles and regional content mention 100 km/h to 160 km/h, while guides and visitor reports mention more common levels between 100 km/h and 120 km/h, especially in the seated mode.

This range depends on factors such as participant weight, wind, body position, and cable humidity.

Code of Conduct and Responsibility

Before takeoff, customers receive instructions on posture, hand positioning, and arrival procedures.

The braking system is automated and monitored by staff.

The park emphasizes that compliance with the guidelines and proper use of equipment are conditions for participation, and operation may be interrupted at any time for reasons of climatic or technical safety.

Role in Regional Tourism

By connecting two municipalities via an aerial line, the K2000 integrates the showcase of the Catarinense European Valley, reinforcing the appeal of nature and adventure.

For accommodations, restaurants, and reception services, the attraction serves as a demand anchor on high-season weekends.

In parallel, it helps distribute visitors across other regional experiences such as waterfalls, Italian heritage routes, and viewpoints.

With the landscape viewed “by the naked eye” from a drone’s perspective and the sensation of crossing a valley from end to end, one question arises for the reader: would you dare to descend 2,000 meters hanging from a pulley to cross two cities in less than two minutes?
