Toyota May Be Producing A New Pickup Larger Than The Hilux In Argentina. The Model Is Expected To Debut In 2028 And Feature Powerful Engines And A Hybrid Version.

According to the website “A Rodar Post”, Toyota is structuring a new industrial project to produce a pickup unprecedented in Argentina, with an estimated launch in early 2028.

The initiative involves the Zárate factory and aims to expand the brand’s presence in the utility sector, offering a more robust, technological, and sophisticated model than those currently produced in the region.

The development is taking place in stages and already includes negotiations with local suppliers for the provision of components.

Additionally, the proposal still depends on final validation from the Japanese headquarters, expected to happen by February 2026.

The choice of Argentina as the production base reinforces the country’s strategic role for Toyota in South America.

New Toyota Pickup: Modern Platform and Larger Dimensions

The new pickup will be built on the global TNGA-F platform, the same one used in other large vehicles from the brand.

This setup allows for greater structural rigidity, better handling, and more interior space. As a result, the model is expected to surpass the Hilux in size, reaching approximately 5.4 meters in length.

Technical records indicate proximity to the current generation of the Tacoma, sold in the North American market.

Thus, Toyota signals that the Argentine pickup will have a more refined profile, also aimed at family and road use.

Focus On Performance and Hybrid Technology

In the mechanical field, the strategy is clear: deliver more power. The i-Force range will feature a 2.4 turbo gasoline engine, while the more advanced version will utilize the i-Force Max hybrid system.

This technology combines electric and combustion engines to enhance performance and efficiency.

The most powerful setup reaches about 330 horsepower and high torque, always with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Furthermore, the multilink rear suspension with coil springs prioritizes comfort and stability.

Coexistence With The Hilux In The Market

Even with the arrival of the new pickup, Toyota does not intend to retire the Hilux. On the contrary: the traditional pickup will gain a new generation in 2027.

Thus, the brand will have two distinct products in its Argentina portfolio, catering to different consumer profiles and usage demands.
