Trump Administration Expands Review of More Than 55 Million Visas and Adopts Unprecedented Criteria, Such as Social Media Analysis and Alleged “Anti-Americanism”.

The U.S. government announced that it is reviewing more than 55 million individuals with valid visas. In the case of American Visas, deportation may occur.

The aim is to identify potential violations that could result in deportation. This measure marks a broader crackdown on foreign nationals authorized to remain in the country.

Continuous Review and Possibility of Immediate Revocation

In response to the Associated Press, the State Department reported that all visa holders are subject to continuous verification. The process checks for indications of ineligibility to enter or remain in the U.S..

According to the agency, if immigration violations are found, the visa will be immediately revoked. Foreign nationals may be deported even if they are just on a tourist visit.

Since the beginning of Donald Trump’s administration, the focus has been on increasing the deportations of illegal immigrants and tightening the rules for students and exchange visitors.

Visa Ineligibility Criteria

The government stated that it is looking for clear indicators of ineligibility.

These include overstaying authorized periods, criminal activities, threats to public safety, and any involvement with terrorism.

According to the State Department, all available information may be considered, including police and immigration records. Even information obtained after the visa is issued may lead to a review and cancellation.

Additional Restrictions on Visa Issuance

The government has increased the restrictions for visa issuance. Today, in-person interviews are mandatory in almost all cases. The current review represents a significant expansion of measures that were previously more targeted at students suspected of involvement in activities considered “pro-Palestinian” or “anti-Israel.”

Now, the analysis also includes monitoring social media accounts, police records, and potential violations of American laws during the stay.

Data Collection and Privacy Requirements

According to authorities, new tools will be used to collect data from visa applicants, including comprehensive scans of social media profiles.

Additionally, the requirement has been introduced that privacy options on cell phones, applications, and other devices be disabled during consular interviews. This measure, according to Washington, ensures full access to the information of applicants.

The State Department stated that since Trump took office, the number of revoked visas has doubled compared to the previous year. In the specific case of students, cancellations have been four times higher.

Global Impact and Countries Outside the Exemption

The majority of foreigners need a visa to enter the U.S., especially to study or work. Only citizens of 40 European and Asian countries, who are part of the Visa Waiver Program, can enter without a visa for up to three months for tourism or business trips.

However, countries like Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Russia, and most of Africa are outside the program. Their citizens are required to obtain visas to enter U.S. territory.

Recent Cancellation Numbers

Earlier this week, the State Department revealed that since Trump returned to the White House, more than 6,000 student visas have been canceled. The main reasons include illegal stay and violations of state, local, and federal laws.

Many of the cases are linked to assaults, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and support for terrorism. According to the government, about 4,000 cancellations occurred due to actual law violations. Another 200 to 300 visas were suspended due to ties to terrorism, such as support for designated organizations or states accused of sponsoring terrorism.

New Criterion: Analysis of “Anti-Americanism”

This week, the White House also announced the inclusion of “anti-Americanism” as a criterion in visa analysis.

According to the announcement, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services will be responsible for implementing this screening. The criterion will apply both to tourist applications and requests for benefits from immigrants already residing in the U.S.

The government maintains that the measure aims to reinforce national security and prevent the presence of individuals considered hostile to American values.

Thus, the changes represent a significant intensification in the U.S. visa policy. For foreigners from countries outside the exemption, the possibility of losing entry or residency permission has become more tangible in light of the continuous verification policy and the new established criteria.
