Compact Entry SUV From Volkswagen Arrives With Maximum Safety, Economical Engines, and National Production, Repositioning the Market by Occupying the Space Left by the Gol as an Affordable and Equipped Option in the Segment.

The Volkswagen Tera 2026 is the new compact entry SUV from the brand, produced in Taubaté (SP), designed to occupy the space that was once held by the Gol.

With a 1.0 aspirated or turbo engine with up to 116 hp, approved fuel consumption of up to 15 km/l on the highway with gasoline, and a maximum rating of 5 stars in Latin NCAP, the model combines SUV styling, an advanced safety package, and prices close to traditional compact hatchbacks.

Launch and Positioning in the Brazilian Market

The Tera was developed in Brazil on the MQB A0 platform, the same as Polo, Nivus, and T-Cross, and aimed primarily at the national market.

The model was unveiled during Carnival at the Sambadrome of Marquês de Sapucaí in Rio de Janeiro, gaining attention before the sales began.

Deliveries began in June 2025, with production concentrated at the Taubaté plant, which received investments and line adjustments to accommodate the new SUV.

Just months after the launch, the Tera had already accumulated 60,000 units produced, establishing itself among the top-selling passenger vehicles in the country and gaining traction in exports to Latin America.

Dimensions, Platform, and Preparation for Brazilian Roads

The Tera measures approximately 4.15 m in length, 1.78 m in width, 2.57 m in wheelbase, and offers 350 liters of trunk space.

The height varies depending on the version, ranging between 1.48 m and 1.50 m, always with raised suspension and about 17.8 cm of ground clearance, facilitating use on uneven roads.

The MQB A0 platform ensures a reinforced structure and modern electronics.

The suspension setup has been recalibrated to handle potholes, speed bumps, and ditches, preserving focus on stability and predictability.

Design Inspired by Larger SUVs

The Tera follows Volkswagen’s new global identity.

The front end features full LED headlights as standard, a light bar integrated into some versions, and a bumper with large air intakes reminiscent of the Tiguan.

At the rear, LED taillights connected by a darkened piece reinforce the urban style.

The body has a high hood, plastic protections on the fenders, and an option for a black roof in higher versions.

The wheels range between 15, 16, and 17 inches.

Interior, Technology, and 350-Liter Trunk

The interior combines elements from the Polo and Nivus, with a dashboard designed for larger screens.

All versions feature an 8-inch digital instrument cluster, while higher versions adopt a 10.25-inch screen.

The 350-liter trunk places the model at the standard of entry-level SUVs.

The rear space accommodates four adults with moderate comfort.

More complete versions come with finishes featuring fabric or vinyl inserts, ambient lighting, and synthetic upholstery.

Engines 1.0 MPI and 1.0 Turbo With up to 116 hp

The Tera 2026 lineup offers two 1.0 flex three-cylinder engines.

The 1.0 MPI aspirated with 84 hp and 10.3 kgfm uses a five-speed manual transmission and equips the entry-level versions.

The 1.0 TSI turbo has 116 hp with ethanol and 16.8 kgfm, appearing in TSI versions and Comfort and High configurations, with an option for a five-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission.

The aspirated Tera reaches 0 to 100 km/h in about 13.8 seconds, while the turbo versions fall between 10 and 12 seconds, with good acceleration.

Among the comfort features, the model offers digital air conditioning, keyless entry, induction charger, parking sensors, and rear camera in intermediate and higher versions.

Some details reference the brand’s legacy, such as small nods to the Gol and the Beetle in the interior, as well as the chassis code “TT,” linked to the Taubaté plant.

National Production, High Degree of Localization, and Exports

The Taubaté plant has been modernized to produce the Tera, achieving over 80% localization of components.

The SUV is already exported to 18 countries in Latin America, including Argentina, Mexico, Chile, Uruguay, Peru, Ecuador, and Paraguay, being one of Volkswagen’s most exported models during the period.

The main competitors are Fiat Pulse, Renault Kardian, and Citroën Basalt.

The Tera focuses on complete safety from the basic version, superior connectivity, and a wide network of dealerships to attract consumers who transitioned from hatchbacks to compact SUVs.

Combining competitive pricing, efficiency, and robustness, the Tera aims to replicate the high-volume trajectory that marked the Gol over decades.
